Abstract

This paper presents the development and application of electrical resistance imaging techniques for the visualization of two-phase flow fields. Two algorithms, the so-called the mesh grouping and the boundary estimation, are described for potential applications of electrical resistance tomography (ERT) and results from extensive numerical simulations are also presented. In the electrical resistance imaging for two-phase flows, numerical meshes fairly belonging to each phase can be grouped to improve the reconstruction performance. In many cases, the detection of phase boundary is a key subject and a mathematical model to estimate phase boundary can be formulated in a different manner. Our results indicated that the mesh grouping algorithm is effective to enhance computational performance and image quality, and boundary estimation algorithm to determine the phase boundary directly.

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a novel approach of user interface for querying Digital Video Library. Through the proposed user interface, the users can specify the query more easily and precisely for image and video retrieval, resulting in better retrieval accuracy of the system. The prototype of the proposed system allows specification of character, atmosphere, implement, mapping and event for the query. This prototype not only provides users with the convenience of query specification in various aspects, but also can easily be extended to the retrieval systems of various multimedia data.

Abstract

As the computer becomes a trend, interactive multimedia design can be one media to communicate the cultural knowledge. A folktale can be a powerful material to show a country's culture. In this project, we try to make the folktale content to be understood easily by implementing some cultural information background. The main aim of this project is to give a vision of the richness culture through the interactive multimedia technology. In this paper, we would like to show a flow map content, a streaming of design process and a visual interface design prototype. Finally, interactive multimedia design content is very useful for a transferring the richness culture because people tend to like a multimedia content. In order to make an effective interactive multimedia design content based on a cultural background, a designer should need to understand about users, culture, technology and the whole design process.

Abstract

This paper proposes a frame work for embedded system management. The management system can automatically monitor and maintain the Internet connected embedded-systems such as sensor devices, set-top box, web-pad, information appliances, PDA, etc. Users can easily diagnose system state, resolve system problems, maintain and update applications, and back up user information using the management system. We implement prototype for the management system on embedded Linux system and High -available Linux system.

Abstract

This paper is about the hardness of Leader Election problem in asynchronous distributed systems in which processes can crash but links are reliable. Recently, the hardness of a problem encountered in the systems is defined with respect to the difficulty to solve it despite failures: a problem is easy if it can be solved in presence of failures, otherwise it is hard [9]. It is shown in [9] that problems are classified as three classes: F (fault-tolerant), NF (Not fault-tolerant) and NFC (NF-completeness). Among those, the class NFC is the hardest problem to solve. It is also shown in [9] that the construction of Perfect Failure Detector (problem P) belongs to NFC. In this paper, we show that Leader Election is also one of NFC problems by using a general reduction protocol that reduces the Leader Election Problem to P. We use a formulation of the Leader Election problem as a prototype to show that it belongs to NFC.

Abstract

In this paper, we proposed an advanced authentication structure for reducing the certificate acquisition time which is one of the factors that should be improved in a conventional wireless PKI. A conventional key exchange method simply performs the key exchange setup step based on discrete algebraic subjects. But the mutual-authentication procedure of wireless PKI for reducing authentication time uses an elliptical curve for a key exchange setup step. We simulated and compared the authentication structure proposed by Sufatrio, K. Lam[4] and proposed authentication structure in terms of the authentication time. Simulation results show that the proposed method reduces the authentication time compared to the conventional wireless PKI authentication method.

Abstract

This research employs the intelligent application form agent to help people to locate the information they would want from Internet quickly. Based on Internet GUI environment, this user-friendly online application form program uses the agent concept to provide the customized, individual information to the users who registered their application form answers, to the extent of increasing the interest and participation of users. The system helps along with the decision making process, by quickening the information gathering process.

Abstract

This paper introduces region partitioning method of non-perfect nested loops with non-uniform dependences. This kind of loop normally can't be parallelized by existing parallelizing compilers and transformations. Even when parallelized in rare instances, the performance is very poor. Based on the Convex Hull theory which has adequate information to handle non-uniform dependences, this paper proposes an enhanced region partitioning method which divides the iteration space into minimum parallel regions where all the iterations inside each parallel region can be executed in parallel by using variable renaming after copying.

Abstract

If the service provider provides mobile service with mobile switching centers that use different handoff message format, the soft-handoff between mobile switching centers is not available and the hard-handoff scheme is used instead. When this occurs, calls are often disconnected or there is an interruption of service. This can be very annoying to a mobile user. We propose the handoff subsystem of the ATM switch which provides the soft-handoff between wireless cells under the control of different MSCs. The proposed handoff subsystem transforms the handoff message format of the source MSC to that of the destination MSC. It also provides efficient routing scheme that distributes handoff packets to balance the traffic load.

Abstract

Generally, multidimensional data such as image and spatial data require large amount of storage space. There is a limit to store and manage those large amounts of data in single workstation. If we manage the data on parallel computing environment which is being actively researched these days, we can get highly improved performance. In this paper, we propose a parallel multidimensional index structure that exploits the parallelism of the parallel computing environment. The proposed index structure is nP(processor)-nxmD(disk) architecture which is the hybrid type of nP-nD and 1P-nD. Its node structure in-creases fan-out and reduces the height of an index. Also, a range search algorithm that maximizes I/O parallelism is devised, and it is applied to k-nearest neighbor queries. Through various experiments, it is shown that the proposed method outperforms other parallel index structures.
