Abstract

Despite their various similarities, Seoul’s’ Gangnam and Seocho districts showed different patterns in the adoption of the RFID household-based waste charging system. Gangnam, one of the 25 wealthiest districts in Seoul, first adopted the RFID system in 2012, but decided abandon it a year later due to inconvenience, sanitation, budget limitations, and management related issues. Unlike Gangnam, Seocho, a largely similar district to Gangnam , started to implement the RFID system in 2015 and successfully adopted this innovation. In this paper, we explain the adoption behaviors of these two districts using a Technology Hype Curve Model with 5 stages. Unlike traditional technology adoption theory, the Hype Curve Model concentrates on the big chasm between early majorities and late majorities, which is a core reason for discontinuity in innovation diffusion. Based on our case study result, the early majority easily gave up adoption due to immature technological and institutional infrastructure. However, Seocho district, who waited until the deficiencies had been sufficiently fixed since late majorities, succeeded at incremental diffusion. Since its invention by Gartner cooperation, the Hype Curve Model has not received enough attention in academia. This paper demonstrates its explanatory power for innovation diffusion. Similarly, this paper focuses on the importance of institutional framework in the diffusion of innovation. Lastly, we compare the behavior of two local governments in supporting and diffusing RFID systems to draw relevant policy implications for innovation diffusion.

Abstract

This research demonstrates a clear visual outline of character influence-relations in creating Jungian character archetypes in films using R computational technology. It contributes to the integration of Jungian analytical psychology into film studies by revealing character network relations in film. This paper handles character archetypes and their influence on developing other character archetypes in films in regards to network analysis drawn from Lynn Schmidt’s analysis of 45 master characters in films. Additionally, this paper conducts a character network analysis visualization experiment using R open-source software to create an easily reproducible tutorial for scholars in humanities. This research is a pioneering work that could trigger the academic communities in humanities to actively adopt data science in their research and education.

Abstract

This study was conducted with a non-equivalent control group experimental design to investigate the effects of a video-based infection control program through the application of the social cognitive theory on caregivers. Forty-six caregivers were recruited, with 23 pairs being randomly assigned to the control and experimental groups each. While the experimental group took part in the video-based education, the control group was involved in typical lectures. For two weeks, both groups were educated on the principles of infection control, medical and external handwashing, standard precautions, and quarantine. Their knowledge, performance, and self-efficacy were evaluated before and after the program. There was a significant increase in knowledge (p<.001 and p=.005) and infection control performance (p<.001) in the experimental and control groups. Similarly, self-efficacy, self-regulatory efficacy, task-difficulty preference and confidence significantly increased in the experimental group (p<.001). In the control group, only task-difficulty preference significantly increased (p=.005). Consequently, the online video-based infection control education program applying the social cognitive theory proved effective in improving the caregivers’ knowledge and performance in infection control, and their self-efficacy. We suggest the use of this program in effective infection control education for caregivers in the future.

Abstract

Recently, bottom-up information systems (BUIS), developed according to the requirements of individual user departments, have become popular. However, effective management of BUIS projects is not enough, with many organizations having experienced integration challenges with such individual projects. BUIS projects are relatively small and limited in scope, as opposed to the large, complex systems developed through traditional top-down information system development projects. Due to these differences in characteristics, the control modes as well as the aspects to improve development performance in each type of project are also different. Therefore, it is difficult to apply the results of prior research on control in system development projects to improve BUIS project performance. The purpose of this study is to derive a new theory of control to improve BUIS project performance. The results contribute to the improvement of firm performance through effective control of BUIS projects in modern enterprises.

Abstract

This paper uses Delphi Method and statistics provided by the State Administration of Market Regulation of China, attempts to develop the scale index of language service industry in China. Coupled with practical investigation and theoretical framework of SCP paradigm, a deep analysis on market behavior, market structure, and market performance of the industry have been explored. First, the study indicates that the scale index of Chinese language services industry has experienced an upward trend from 10.481million RMB in 2008 to 351.403 million RMB in 2017. Second, majority of language services enterprises are situated in Chinese coastal provinces and there are variations in demand for language services. Third, the standardization of language services are minimal while most of the talents involve a single discipline background. Fourth, most enterprises utilize language tools while there is lack of technological innovation for utilization of language resources and enhancement of service quality. The author mainly suggests four strategies which include: cultivating multilingual services, strengthening the development of industrial informatization and technical innovation, and optimizing the industrial talents structure while also adjusting for industrial distribution and regional coordination, which propose the meaningful implications for the development of language service industry in China.

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to discuss how designers lead and direct ‘technology-driven society’ using their creative communication skill. To this end, it is required for communication designers to take conscious steps to recognize the future direction of their profession. Despite the advancement in technology, there is a human being at the center of all design activities. From a certain point of view, contemporary communication design takes an open-ended exploration of the subject matter, rather than a finished output. The notion of creative leadership may potentially expand more in terms of improving the methodology of today’s visual culture. The paper will examine creative leadership that could be proposed by the challenge of discourse upon the upcoming industrial revolution. Today, communication designers are confronted by new leadership opportunities and challenges. Some leading designers seem to focus on brand new media technologies to prepare the 4th industrial revolutions. However, communication design cannot be discussed in the medium but can be understood as a process. Top-down and bottom-up process is always a concerned about the relationship since the focus of leadership has changed. In the top-down process, the leadership has existed between ‘designer and client’ because designers have played their role as a problem solver. On the other hand, there is a different model of leadership between ‘design and technology’ based on bottom-up process, which stem from the design authorship. In this regard, the new definition of creative leadership in the 4th industrial revolution proposes a designer as a problem-finder based on the relationship between the ‘designer and the public’.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of physical education classes based on Flipped Learning on self-directed learning abilities and learning attitude towards these classes, for middle school students. The study selected 90 students as an experimental group (3 classes) and 97 students as a control group (3 classes), among 240 students of the first-year students attending a middle school located at Jeonju City of South Korea, applying convenience sampling, one of the non-probability sampling methods. For the experimental group, 36 sessions of physical education classes were held for 14 weeks, while the control group received teacher-centered classes. Comparing the results with the control group, the experimental group showed significant differences in terms of all sub factors of self-directed learning abilities, namely; desire for learning, learning objective establishment, basic self-management abilities, selection of learning strategy and self-reflection. Moreover, the experimental group manifested significant differences in terms of all sub factors of attitude towards the physical education subjects, namely; positive emotions, negative emotions, health & physical strength, interpersonal relations, physical activities & movements, and active participation & positive performance. From the findings, it can be considered that physical education classes based on Flipped Learning contributed to improving self-directed learning abilities and attitude towards physical education classes. This result can serve as a significant basic material for designing and performing classes in raising the understanding of Flipped Learning and effectively applying Flipped Learning in physical education classes.

Abstract

The Integration technique of combining the measurement method with the fine precision of the sensor collecting the satellite-based information to determine the displacement space is available to a variety of diagnostic information. The measurement method by a GNSS with the sensors is needed since there will always be occasional occurrence of natural disasters caused by various environmental factors and the surroundings. Such attempts carried out nationally by distributed torsional displacement of the terrain and facilities. The combination of the various positioning analysis of mm-class for the facility of main area observed is required constantly in real time information of the USN/IoT Smart sensors and should be able to utilize such information as a precisely fine positioning information for the precisely fine displacement of the semi-permanent main facilities. In this study, for the installation of the receiving system, the USN/IoT base line positioning are easily accessible for the target bridges. Transmitting hourly from the received data is also executed in real time using the wireless Wi-Fi/Bluetooth bridges and related facilities to automatically process a fine position displacement. The results obtained from this method can be analyzed by real-time monitoring for a large structure or facilities for disaster prevention.
