Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the psychometric properties of the vocational ability scale used in the 8th Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled in Korea by using the Rasch model. The sample data was collected from 398 individuals with intellectual disabilities. Item fitness, item difficulty, the appropriateness of the rating scale, and the separation index of the vocational ability scale were evaluated. All 15 items show an appropriate fitness level. The analysis of item difficulty indicate that modifications are required. Specifically, the need for the addition of less difficult question items is identified. The use of a 5-point rating scale is shown to decrease the test difficulty in terms of clarity and readability when appropriate and a 4-point modification is also determined as appropriate. With respect to the outcomes of the analysis, the person separation reliability value and separation index are high, and the reliability of the items is also high.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze characteristics and patterns of ‘better class’ by using the longitudinal text mining big data analysis technique from subjective lecture evaluation comments. First, this study classified upper 30% classes to deduce certain characteristics and patterns from every five-year subjective text data for 10 years. A total of 47,177courses (100%) from spring semester 2005 to fall semester 2014 were analyzed from a university at a metropolitan city in the mid area of South Korea. This study extracted meaningful words such as good, course, professor, appreciation, lecture, interesting, useful, know, easy, improvement, progress, teaching material, passion, and concern from the order of frequency 2005-2009. The other set of words were class, appreciation, professor, good, course, interesting, understanding, useful, help, student, effort, thinking, not difficult, explanation, lecture, hard, pleasant, easy, study, examination, like, various, fun, and knowledge 2010-2014. This study suggests that the characteristics and patterns of ‘better class’ at college, should be analyzed according to different academic code such as liberal arts, fine arts, social science, engineering, math and science, and etc.

Abstract

This systematic review compared Korean and international researches on sensory integration therapy in patients with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). We targeted studies on sensory integration therapy for patients with ASD published from January 2000 through July 2016. Specifically, we analyzed the papers that used the phrase ‘sensory integration, autism’ as keywords. There were fewer Korean studies of sensory integration therapy, and the diversity of research topics were limited, focusing mainly on case studies. There was no difference between the internal/external validity of Korean and those of international studies targeting the clinical environment and patients. Further study of a variety of aspects of sensory integration therapy is needed to gain high internal/external validity.

Abstract

This study employs an experimental design to investigate the conditions under which the use of AR may be particularly effective or rather ineffective in advertising contexts. We first discuss the inconsistent results regarding the effectiveness of AR on advertising message comprehension and argue that these inconsistencies can be at least partly explained by the moderating effect of an individual’s resistance to innovation (i.e., AR technologies). We then provide statistically significant interaction effects between ad types (AR-based, traditional 2D) and innovation resistance. Finally, we suggest that the effect of AR on certain variables is constrained or unconstrained by an individual’s level of receptivity or resistance to a new technology-based advertising platform, and that flow experience is equivalent regardless of these levels.

Abstract

We usually suffer from difficulties in treating or managing Big Data generated from various digital media and/or sensors using traditional mining techniques. Additionally, there are many problems relative to the lack of memory and the burden of the learning curve, etc. in an increasing capacity of large volumes of text when new data are continuously accumulated because we ineffectively analyze total data including data previously analyzed and collected. In this paper, we propose a general-purpose classifier and its structure to solve these problems. We depart from the current feature-reduction methods and introduce a new scheme that only adopts changed elements when new features are partially accumulated in this free-style learning environment. The incremental learning module built from a gradually progressive formation learns only changed parts of data without any re-processing of current accumulations while traditional methods re-learn total data for every adding or changing of data. Additionally, users can freely merge new data with previous data throughout the resource management procedure whenever re-learning is needed. At the end of this paper, we confirm a good performance of this method in data processing based on the Big Data environment throughout an analysis because of its learning efficiency. Also, comparing this algorithm with those of NB and SVM, we can achieve an accuracy of approximately 95% in all three models. We expect that our method will be a viable substitute for high performance and accuracy relative to large computing systems for Big Data analysis using a PC cluster environment.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a peer-assisted learning (PAL) program for use in a core nursing skills education course and to investigate the effects of the education program on three key outcomes. A comparative study was conducted through the division of students of a core nursing skills education program into a treatment group and control group. After the programs, self-efficacy, confidence and satisfaction were compared between the groups. The comparison of these three factors indicated that the related scores were significantly higher in the treatment group receiving the education program with the PAL method than those of the control group receiving traditional education. We concluded that self-efficacy gave the nursing students the confidence that they could successfully perform their tasks and motivation to learn. Education programs using the PAL method are suggested as an effective method for the acquisition of skills among nursing students.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the factors affecting the community well-being of residents through empirical analysis. Rather than just identifying the variables that promote residents’ subjective happiness, we focused on factors affecting residents’ living condition. In order to empirically investigate the influencing factors, we constructed the analysis data using the Gyeonggi-do survey. We analyzed it by using linear regression analysis. Through the effects of influencing factor analyzed, we could find implications for public project’s priority in budget distribution. It could be suggested that local public projects for residents should be focused on improving programs such as job satisfaction, resident health, and neighborhood relations in order to effectively raise community well-being level.
