Abstract

The new paradigm called the web 2.0 recently appeared in the web environment. We pay attention to the positive effects which may be brought about by application of the web 2.0 to e-learning; we think that it can improve problem solving skills of learners and reinforce their creativity. But until now, e-learning model, which understood the web 2.0 concept completely, has been never developed. In this context, we propose the web 2.0-based e-learning platform which induces all the courses for education such as the selection of topic, preparation of lecture schedule and contents, teaching and learning, to be decided by participants. We believe that this platform can replace or supplement the e-learning of web 1.0 age, and realize the positive effects.

Abstract

In this paper, we propose u-Learning management systems which are designed and implemented based on learning activities oriented components. The proposed systems are composed of components which can process the functionalities for coming into actions of learning activities. Specially, each component is broken into class units by which learning activities of users can be performed on various devices. When users try to connect the proposed learning management system, the system explores devices of users and the corresponding connection program, and then selects components that are fitted to the activities and combines them in a real-time. Our system provides u-Learning environment so that users can use the learning activity services taking no influence on time, place, various devices and programs. That is different from traditional e-Learning system which cannot support various devices of users directly.

Abstract

Peer to Peer (P2P) utilizes the resources of an offered service without the need for a central server or preexistent server-client, making it a desirable network environment for data exchange based on direct connection between peers. Proposed by Sun Microsystems, JXTA(Juxtapose) is a typical P2P system and distributed computing model that does not require central service resources and is flexible to deal with various network configuration changes. Meanwhile, Mobile Ad-hoc NETwork(MANET) is a typical wireless network configured with mobile nodes and without an infrastructure, where a network is established by direct connection or through other peers in the propagation area, Thus, MANET maintains the latest path information by establishing paths and changing path information for communication between peers in a highly mobile wireless network. Accordingly, this article proposes the JXTAMANET method for wireless networks to enable JXTA to be applied to MANET. NS2 is used to evaluate the performance and the proposed architecture is shown to produce better results than a conventional flooding method.

Abstract

The private security will overcome the limit of public police system and implement a small and efficient government concept. Especially in recent years, this security system has naturally been expanded in its functions from crime prevention to prevention of disasters. To manage the emergency by the private security industry, the private security services to involve some peculiarity and specialty. The policy agenda of private security industry for crisis management are suggested. First of all, to provide quality services for emergency management, the guards from private organizations should receive professional education and training to secure the specialty. Second, we need to improve the quality of security instructors with intensive education system for them. Security instructors should be able to effectively handle lots of different matters in the fields of security, but examination of the current curriculum of education for security instructor indicates that there is not much chance of it. Third, must be natural in light that the private organizations have some limitations in their operational capabilities and scopes. Private security duties are well established in cooperation with related institutions such as the police. Lastly, development of high quality crisis management commodities in the private security becomes even more significant. The government should be determined to make an effort to grow the private industry and foster a political environment for the same purpose.

Abstract

Since the diagnosis of malignancy and benign of thyroid gland diseases is difficult only by using ultrasonogram opinions, the combination of fine needle aspiration (FNA) has been generalized trend for precise pathological diagnosis. Therefore, the current study aimed to know about its availability. The study subjected 500 patients who received the FNA along with the ultrasonogram screening for thyroid gland from October, 2007 to April, 2008. As the equipments for the study, Philips HDI-3500 and Philips UlTRAMARKer-9 (UM-9) were used to conduct the comparative analysis of pathological results that were obtained through the inspection of ultrasonogram screening and through ultrasonogram guided FNA. Among the 464 patients who were found to be benign from the ultrasonogram screening inspection, 11 cases of the FNA diagnosis results judged to be malignancy, and 13 cases of the FNA diagnosis resulted to be benign among 36 patients who were diagnosed to be malignancy. The cases observed as solid from the opinions of ultrasonogram screening were often found to be malignancy, and most of the malignancy results were observed to show the hypoechoic pattern. Among the patients diagnosed with malignancy from the diagnosis of FNA, the 32 patients were found to have the papillary carcinoma, and the benign type was observed to be goiter and hyperplasia in 263 patients, which took up 52.6%. The ultrasonogram screening test that is performed for the purpose of diagnosing thyroid gland diseases, it is distinctively an useful inspection to diagnosis the presence, size and shape of nodules. However, the results of performing of FNA for those of nodules which were observed to be benign from the ultrasonogram were often came up with malignancy and there were cases that the nodules diagnosed with malignancy were diagnosed as benign from the FNA diagnosis.

Abstract

This paper empirically tests pecking order theory. Korean listed firms are used as the samples. On the whole we find supportive results for pecking order theory. The fixed effect model on the whole period shows that as pecking order theory suggests that debt ratio decreases as cash flow, ROA, physical assets, and firm size increase. Again, it is shown that corporate debt ratio significantly decreases as cash flow or ROA increases in every sub-sample, which coincides with the prediction of pecking order theory. Corporate debt ratio significantly decreases as physical assets or firm size increases in case of the whole sample, pre-financial crisis period, and the sub-samples by q-ratio, which also supports the prediction of pecking order theory. Statistical significance of the coefficients of physical assets or firm size completely disappears after Korean financial crisis. Perhaps it is because the role of physical assets or firm size as a mitigator of information asymmetry significantly weakens after the financial crisis as Korean financial market becomes more transparent. For small firms only size variable is negatively and significantly related with debt to assets. It seems that size is an important factor for smaller firms in making financing decision.

Abstract

Logistics is in the limelight as one of a variety of RFID applications. The RFID technology is actively being applied to improve the competitiveness power of companies through the synthetic management of products and information. The RFID system generates large volume of stream data. It has problems which occur waste of storage and long processing time when storing large data and processing queries. Recently, many studies have been done to solve the problems which are generated in RFID system. In this thesis, we propose an efficient data management scheme for path queries and containment queries which are occurred frequently. The proposed data management scheme considers a change of the containment of products during a transport and supports a path of changed products by representing a path of various containments. Also, the compression utilizing the structure of supply chain reduces the stored data volumes. In order to show the superiority of our approach, we compare it with the existing schemes. As a result, our experimental results show that our scheme outperforms the existing scheme in terms of storage efficiency and query processing time.

Abstract

In this paper, we present a structure of personalized e-Learning system to study for a test formalized by uniform multiple-choice using on/off-line mixed estimations as is the case of Driver’s License Test in Korea. Using the system a candidate can study toward the license through the Internet (and/or mobile instruments) within the personalized concept based on IRT(item response theory). The system accurately estimates user’s ability parameter and dynamically offers optimal evaluation problems and learning contents according to the estimated ability so that the user can take possession of the license in shorter time. In order to establish the personalized e-Learning concepts, we build up 3 databases and 2 agents in this system. Content DB maintains learning contents for studying toward the license as the shape of objects separated by concept-unit. Item-bank DB manages items with their parameters such as difficulties, discriminations, and guessing factors, which are firmly related to the learning contents in Content DB through the concept of object parameters. User profile DB maintains users’ status information, item responses, and ability parameters. With these DB formations, Interface agent processes user ID, password, status information, and various queries generated by learners. In addition, it hooks up user’s item response with Selection & Feedback agent. On the other hand, Selection & Feedback agent offers problems and content objects according to the corresponding user’s ability parameter, and re-estimates the ability parameter to activate dynamic personalized learning situation and so forth.
