Abstract

Allocation of computing resources is a crucial issue when dealing with a huge number of tasks to be completed according to a given deadline and cost constraints. The task scheduling to several resources (e.g. grid, cloud or a supercomputer) with different characteristics is not trivial, especially if a trade-off in terms of time and cost is considered. We propose an allocation approach able to fulfill the given requirements about time and cost through the use of optimizing techniques and an adaptive behavior. Simulated productions of tasks have been run in order to evaluate the characteristics of the proposed approach.

Abstract

The directional MAC (DMAC) protocol improves the spatial reuse, but directional packets on the control channel cause the deafness problem. In this paper, we propose a tone dual-channel DMAC protocol for mobile ad-hoc networks. In the proposed MAC protocol, the use of omnidirectional transmissions using an omnidirectional out-of-band tone solves the deafness problem and decrease packet collisions on the control channel. The use of an omnidirectional out-of-band tone also mitigates the hidden terminal problem. We use the negative CTS (NCTS) mechanism to solve the exposed terminal problem. The throughput performance of the proposed MAC protocol is confirmed by simulations using the Qualnet simulator.

Abstract

In this paper, we develop a mobile MAP open API using HTML5 local storage and the W3C geolocation API. The mobile MAP open API consists of the basic JavaScript MAP API, offline navigation API, and multimedia POI (mPOI) API. The basic JavaScript MAP API creates a map and controls, rotates, and overlays data on the map. The offline navigation API is developed using HTML5 local storage and web storage. The mobile web application downloads and stores mPOIs of works of art to local storage or web storage from a web server. The mPOI API is developed using HTML5 video and audio APIs. We develop a mobile art park guidance application using the developed mobile MAP open API.

Abstract

Technophobia is described as the ‘abnormal fear or anxiety about the effects of advanced technology’, affecting one third of the population, causing health problems and the inability to work efficiently. The development of the mobile phone, both in its design process and its following socioeconomic success, has a prominent effect on our society in general; this point will be explicated in this paper. The negative effects of these developments have also been assessed with questionnaire-based interviews, focus groups and media analysis in order to focus on those who are most susceptible to the effects of technophobia, to discover the possible causes and to develop a solution for overcoming the phobia. The findings of the literature review and empirical research have been debated; the results proved inconclusive. All age and sex and groups displayed levels of anxiety around technology. Therefore, designers cannot afford to abandon these individuals in the future, and attention should be directed into inclusive product design. Therefore, various solutions have been suggested for support for these sufferers, such as tuition and bespoke, ‘built to specification’ mobile phones

Abstract

People with obesity or over-weight need nutritional intervention to reduce their weight, because weight loss reduces the incidence rate of chronic diseases such as hypertension, type II diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer in obese people. This study was to develop a system for individualized weight control program available both for wired and wireless internet users. This system is especially useful to users carrying wireless internet mobile device. If they input their physical information (height, weight and waist circumference) and mineral levels measured by hair tissue mineral analysis, the system provides evaluation of their health status and metabolic related functions such as endocrine and carbohydrate tolerance. Based on these evaluations, food menus are then offered to them to manage their health status and to improve their metabolic related physiological functions in a personalized way. The system also provides more information for recommended foods, such as nutritional information, food ingredients, recipes, and videos related to cooking. Bibimbap was selected as an example dish for customized contents for mobile web. Bibimbap is one of the most well-known Korean traditional dishes prepared with various kinds of ingredients including several different kinds of vegetables, meat, and egg so that it is a low calorie dish as well as a well-balanced diet. Therefore, this system developed in this study allows the mobile users to access web site through wired•wireless internet everywhere and provides a customized content to the users to manage their weight and finally to achieve a desirable weight.

Abstract

This research would be the first step toward in the long processes of proton technology industrial cluster development by focusing on the region's readiness and acceptability of the proton technology project. As is shown in our questionnaire survey, the top priorities needed to consider for the Proton Technology project are found to be job creation (mean 3.74), regional economic development (mean 3.72), industry infrastructure(3.54), institution for science and education(3.53), economic inequalities(3.33), tourism industry revitalization(3.20). For public servants top priorities in order found to be regional economic development, job creation, industry infrastructure, institution for science and education, economic inequalities, tourism industry revitalization. Universities' priorities in order found to be job creation, regional economic development, institution for science and education, industry infrastructure, economic inequalities, tourism industry revitalization. The mean reliability score for the each party was found to be mayor((3.04), citizens(2.99), province(2.97), private corporation(2.96), and universities((2.93). Of particular note, the mean score except the mayor were all below median (3.00). province(3.24), city council member(3.20), public employees (3.09), private corporation(3.03), nonprofit organization (2.97), mass media (2.96), citizens(2.96), and universities(2.89). The universities and colleges also should revise their strategic plans and thus restructure their internal academic programs, and must develop their own collaborative programs with Proton Engineering Frontier Project, related industries, city, and other government units. Not only educating, training, and providing top-notched man powers to the proton technology industries will be one of their primary missions.

Abstract

This paper has investigated the effects of employees’ organizational cynicism on their organizational commitment and pro-union behavioral intentions in the context of repetitively implementing business innovation program. The cynical responses about the business innovation program & projects have been classified into four categories; Exit, Voice, Loyalty and Neglect. The research samples have been drawn from managers and office employees at four business sites of conglomerates in Korea. According to the analysis, business innovation program which is continuous and repetitive has made managers and office employees have highly cynical attitudes. In turn, the organizational cynicism has accelerated their Exit and Neglect responses, but shrunk Voice and Loyalty responses. As a result, it has been confirmed that the organizational cynicism has a direct effect on organizational commitment and pro-union behavioral intentions. In addition, it has been concluded that Exit and Neglect had a negative effect on organizational commitment but a positive effect on pro-union behavioral intentions. Even though Voice and Loyalty had a positive effect on organizational commitment, they had no significant effect on pro-union behavioral intentions. Furthermore, no mediating effect has been detected. Implications and suggestions for future research were then discussed.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate college students’ opinion on participation in media education. The research question is as follows: first, what is the college students' perceptions who participated in media education? Second, what are the differences among the perceptions of college students who participated in media education? To answer these research questions, we used Q-methodology, which is more useful in organizing subjectivity types and opinions of students, both in explaining and sorting of data by characteristic and personal opinion. As a result, two types were found; type 1 is the active participation type that focuses on the active participation in media education as a productive tool and teaching method, as well as diminishing the current controls and restrictions on its use in education. On the other hand, type 2 is the growing adaptive type and is positive for the future development of media education in a transitional role, while they think that current media education for college students is not qualitative yet, a productive tool and the quality of the information message is lacking, and so on.

Abstract

This study investigates the portrait paintings of the Chosun period and the Death Records of the Chosun-dynasty Sillok in an effort to find new methods to apply to character design. The basis of this study were 42 figures from a group of portrait paintings from the late Goryeo period to the Chosun dynasty of the 25th King, Chul-Jong. First, Chinese letters illustrating the personalities in the Death Records were classified into five groups based on the Big Five theory, which divides personalities into the Big Five Personality Traits of extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness. Secondly, a representative facial image was created through a morphing technique after extracting the portraits using a method that relied on the high frequency of the appearance of specific Chinese letters related to each personality type.

Abstract

The aim of our study was to evaluate the immediate effects of an 830-nm Aluminium gallium arsenide (GaAlAs) laser, by examining the changes, in pressure-pain threshold (PPT) and tenderness at 3 kg of the myofascial trigger point (MTrP) of the upper trapezius muscle in visual display terminal (VDT) workers in comparison with placebo treatment. Thirty VDT workers (13 males, 17 females) with complaints of upper trapezius muscle were recruited. All participants were given either active GaAlAs laser (830 nm wavelength, 450 mW, 9 J at point) or placebo GaAlAs laser, according to the double-blinded and placebo-controlled trial. Both active and placebo low-level laser therapy (LLLT) treatments showed no significant effect on PPT and tenderness at 3 kg. These results suggest that a higher dosage may be necessary to produce immediate effects when applying LLLT to the MTrP of relatively large muscles such as the upper trapezius muscle.
