Aims and Scope

The Journal of Information Science Theory and Practice, JISTaP (pISSN 2287-9099; eISSN 2287-4577), which is published quarterly (March 30, June 30, September 30, and December 30) by the Korean Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI). The journal provides an international forum for practical and theoretical research in the interdisciplinary areas of information science, such as information processing and management, knowledge organization, scholarly communication, and bibliometrics. To foster scholarly communication among researchers and practitioners of library and information science around the globe, JISTaP offers a no-fee open access publishing venue where a team of dedicated editors, reviewers, and staff members volunteer their services to ensure rapid dissemination and communication of scholarly works that make significant contributions.

In a modern society, where information production and consumption grow at an astronomical rate, the science of information management, organization, and analysis is invaluable for the effective utilization of information. The key objective of the journal is to foster research that can contribute to advancements and innovations in the theory and practice of information and library science and to promote the timely application of the findings from scientific investigations to everyday life. Recognizing the importance of the global perspective while understanding region-specific issues, JISTaP encourages submissions of manuscripts that discuss the global implications of the regional findings as well as the regional implications of global findings.

We welcome materials that reflect a wide range of perspectives and approaches on diverse areas of information science theory, application, and practice. Topics covered by the journal include information processing and management, information policy, library management, knowledge organization, metadata and classification, information seeking, information retrieval, information systems, scientific and technical information service, human-computer interaction, social media design, analytics, scholarly communication, and bibliometrics. Above all, we encourage innovative submissions that explore the question of how theory can be applied to solve real-world problems in the broad discipline of information science.

JISTaP is published by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI), which is a government-funded research institute providing science and technology information (STI) services to support high-tech R&D for researchers in Korea for over 60 years. KISTI, along with its STI services to researchers, has been providing scholarly publishing support to the Korean academic community.
