Research and Publication Ethics

Ethical Principles

Enacted on March 1, 2008

Article 1. Purpose
These regulations aim to establish and adhere to research and publication ethics of authors and reviewers with regard to the publication of articles in the "Korean Journal of Clinical Psychology” (hereinafter referred to as "the Journal"), an official journal of the Korean Clinical Psychological Association (KCPA) (herein referred to as "the Association").


Article 2. Ethical Conduct of Researchers


Researchers shall be honest in conducting research. Researchers shall be honest in conducting the whole process of research, such as idea derivation, research funding, publication of research results, and fair compensation for research participants.

Researchers shall allow research participants self-determination and protect their rights, integrity and privacy from infringement, and shall assure research participants safety from psychological and physical harm. To this end, they shall explain to research participants or guardian the procedure and content of research in detail before the start of research and shall obtain consent to participate in research.

In cases where participants are in a potentially dependent relationship with the researcher, such as therapy clients and students, researchers shall take measures to protect them from possible harm that may occur should the research participant refuse to participate or abandon participation.

When citing or referring to their or others' research results, researchers shall follow the guidelines for authors for this Journal.

Researchers shall not plagiarize other researcher’s work, nor shall they falsify research materials and results by counterfeiting non-existent data or findings, manipulating data, equipment or process, or changing results.

Researchers shall not submit manuscripts that have already been published or are being reviewed by either domestic or foreign academic journals and/or books to this Journal, nor shall they submit manuscripts that have already been or are being submitted to this Journal to any other journals arbitrarily.

When research requires approval from an institution, researchers shall submit accurate information on their research plan and proposal to the respective institution, receive approval therefrom, and perform research in accordance with the approved plan.


Article 3. Ethics of Peer Reviewers

Peer reviewers are responsible for maintaining objectivity and fairness in manuscript review.

Peer reviewers are responsible for providing written, unbiased feedback without personal comments or criticism.

Peer reviewers are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of the review process, not sharing, discussing with third parties. Any related concerns should be discussed only with the Editor-in-Chief.

Peer reviewers shall not use or plagiarize content of the manuscript for any purpose other than manuscript review.


Article 4. Ethical Conduct of Editor-in Chief and Editorial Board

Editor-in-Chief shall manage and supervise the entire manuscript review process.

Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editors shall not reveal information related to the entire the review process.

Editor-in-Chief is responsible for correcting errors that may occur in the process of publication, and shall disclose the corrections in writing.


Article 5. Role of the Ethics Committee

The matters on research ethics shall be deliberated by the "Committee on Reward, Punishment and Ethics" (hereinafter referred to as "Ethics Committee”) of the Association.

The Ethics Committee shall deliberate matters pertaining to research ethics that have been raised with regard to the publication of the journal and any published paper in the journal.

The Editorial Board shall review the violation of research ethics, such as duplicate publications, plagiarism, counterfeit and falsification, after which the Ethics Committee shall make the final decision following deliberation.


Article 6. Violation of Ethical Principles for Research

The Association's members and the concerned (herein after referred to as "the deliberation requester") may request deliberation on whether a specific member's particular behavior violates the Research Ethics Regulations. Actual name shall be used for deliberation request in principle.

Receiving the request for deliberation, the Ethics Committee shall take proper measures for investigation and disposition.

The requester and the accused shall accept the investigation by the Committee. The very non-acceptance violates the ethical regulations.

The Ethics Committee shall offer the opportunities for self-protection and explanation to the accused in violation of research ethics (hereinafter referred to as "the accused").

The investigation shall be kept confidential and shall not be against the Association's interests.

The Ethics Committee Chairperson shall be responsible for informing the accused and the requester of the results of deliberation in writing or via email.

The accused and the requester may submit opinions or counterarguments regarding the results and request retrial only once. The Ethics Committee shall decide retrial by a majority vote of registered Commissioners.

The investigation results shall be reported to the Association and the record involved shall be stored in the Association for a period separately prescribed from the time when the investigation is finished.

If the suspicion is judged to violate research ethics, the Ethics Committee may take measures, such as notice and announcement of violation, prohibition of publication, cancellation and deletion of publication, prohibition of future manuscript submission.

The Ethics Committee shall decide the specific contents, scope, methods, period of the measures in accordance with the nature and extent of the violation.


Article 7. Statement of Research Ethics Confirmation
When submitting a manuscript for publication in the Journal, authors shall submit their statement of research ethics confirmation to the Editorial Board. The submitted statement shall be reviewed by the Editorial Board.


Article 8.
Matters unspecified in the regulations above shall comply with conventions or customs.
