Disclaimer: This is an English translation of the original Korean document "논문 투고 규정". In case of any discrepancy, the Korean version takes precedence.
These guidelines aim to establish standards for article submissions to academic journals published by the Korean Association for Digital Humanities (KADH).
Association members who have fulfilled their membership obligations, including payment of dues, may submit articles to the journal and have them published after undergoing the prescribed review process. Non-member submissions are subject to the Editorial Committee's decision.
Articles must be submitted through the open-access submission and review system by the specified deadline. The submission date is considered the day the manuscript is received through the association's article submission and review system. In principle, submissions should be made 30 days before journal publication, and articles received in the submission system before the deadline for each issue will be considered for that issue.
Articles must adhere to the association's article writing guidelines and format requirements. They may be written in Korean or English. Submitters should use the MS Word template file (docx) provided by the association to prepare their articles.
Articles must fundamentally be unpublished academic works. Theses or dissertations (or their abstracts) must be clearly identified as such, and the first author must be the degree recipient. Articles presented at conferences organized by this association must be clearly identified as conference presentations, and the first author must be the conference presenter.
The author is fundamentally responsible for the content of the article. Articles must follow the "KADH Research Ethics Guidelines." Violations of these submission-related regulations may result in the cancellation of publication, even after the article has been published.
Articles published in this journal are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/). Therefore, anyone can freely use the association's academic articles for non-commercial purposes. However, public information service institutions providing full texts of the association's journal articles may enter into a usage agreement with the association for continuous and stable service.
Submitted articles must comply with the association's article format.
Author information in Korean and English should be listed in the order of author name and affiliation (institution, department).
For multiple authors, the order should be: main author - co-authors (in order of contribution to the article) - corresponding author.
Articles should be structured in the following order: table of contents, Korean abstract, English abstract, main text, endnotes, and references.
The first line of each paragraph should be indented by two spaces.
The table of contents should only include up to the second level of subheadings.
Both English and Korean abstracts must include the research purpose, research method and scope, and a summary of the research content and results.
Select 3-5 keywords that best represent the article's content and list them in both Korean and English below the respective abstracts.
Use the following numbering system for headings:
References (endnotes) should primarily be optimized for digital resources. When digital resources are insufficient, supplement with the Chicago Manual of Style 17th Edition. Page numbers are omitted in the reference list.
When citing sources with a DOI or other URI (unique digital resource address), it must be included. URIs should prioritize DOI, with the following recommendations for other cases:
For East Asian languages, respect the original author's Chinese character notation.
For journal articles:
For books:
For web resources: Creator. "Object Name". URI
For edited books/chapters: Author Name (Year). "Chapter Title". In Editor Name (Ed.),
For translated works: Original Author Name in original language. Translator Name (trans.) (Year).
When re-citing previously cited sources in endnotes, write out the full citation without abbreviation.
For matters not specified in these guidelines, follow common practices.
These regulations aim to establish standards for submitting research data used in article preparation during the submission process, specifying the obligation to submit research data, procedures, and specific submission formats.
If the submitted journal article is based on research data, the submitter is obligated to submit the data along with the article. If research data is mentioned, presented, or used as specific evidence in the argumentation process of the submitted article, but not submitted along with the article, the Editorial Committee may reject the submitted article through an internal meeting.
However, information protected by the Copyright Act and other laws, or information with restricted disclosure according to other laws, may be exempt if proper permission for use has not been obtained.
Research data fundamentally includes all results (raw data, processes, outputs, etc.) used as specific evidence in the submitted article.
Research data can be broadly classified into ① data directly compiled by the submitter and ② pre-established data already open and shared externally. The use of pre-established data can be further divided into ②-ⓐ cases where the data is used without modifying its form or content, and ②-ⓑ cases where some form or content is modified or processed for research purposes. All these cases directly contain the context and information compiled or processed by the submitter during the research process, so the relevant data must be submitted during the submission process.
Research data needs to be collected and organized in a format that facilitates online verification and sharing, so machine-readable data formats based on web standard technologies are adopted as the basic principle.
Research data necessary for article review should be attached when submitting the article. Only when the file format is difficult to attach or there are file size limitations, the submitter may include a link to the research data in the manuscript. In this case, the link should not allow identification of the submitter to ensure fair review.
Explanations for each attached research data file should be included in the main text, endnotes, or appendices of the submitted article.
When submitting a revised article, if reviewers request modifications or additional research data submission, or if the author deems it necessary, the submitter should attach the modified/additional research data.
For articles accepted for publication, four methods (dataon, osf, github, dataverse) are recommended for publishing research data. Submitters may choose other formats if desired.
Submitters must disclose the final link to the research data in the main text, endnotes, or appendices of the published article.
The submitter is fundamentally responsible for the content of the research data.
Ethical review of submitted research data fundamentally follows the "KADH Research Ethics Guidelines." For example, if a submitter uses data built by other researchers with some processing or edits publicly available data for use as research data without specifying this information, it may violate research ethics regulations. In such cases, publication may be canceled even after the article has been published.
Research data submitted to this journal is distributed as public data through the journal's website, along with the distribution of published articles based on Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/). Accordingly, anyone, including researchers, can freely use the research data provided by this association for non-profit purposes. However, public information service institutions providing research data related to the association's published articles may enter into a usage agreement with the association for continuous and stable service.
① Other matters follow general conventions or the resolutions of the Editorial Committee. ② These regulations are effective from February 8, 2023.
