Abstract
In this paper, I scrutinized on two autobiographical proses written by Cho Chang-yong. He participated in the enlightenment movement leaded by Chang Ji-yeon as a teacher and journalist. From the analysis of two works, I found that he made some fictitious constitutions on characters and history to present his opinion on the solution of national crisis. He inherited and modified the generic tradition of classical literature, for example traditional autobiography(自傳), mongyurok(夢遊錄), traditional allegory(寓言). From this research, I could find out some characteristic aspects of literary acculturation in his proses. Those were the fiction on the first person, the identification the real with the imagined time and space, immediate showing of concealed connotation. In a sense those are commonness between works in the same times. Nevertheless I need to stress on that point, because that was occasionally neglected in the study of Korean literary history. To scribing the perfect spectacle of Korean literature in those times, we must discover more writers and works founded on conventional culture and literature. Besides I think that is the desirable way to elucidation the dynamic relation between tradition and alteration.
