Abstract

It was Buddhism from India that made the Eastern Asian get on toward the Middle Ages. In Hanmun Civilization World(漢文文明圈) it had been a foreign religion. Thus we will assume that there had been a method to introduce it into China which was the center of Hanmun Civilization World then. In this study, it was made clear to be Honji-suijaku theory. Till now it was studied to explain Japanese Shinto神道 and taken for its characteristics, but here it was clarified to be related with Chinese Taoism(道敎). On the basis of that argument, I studied comparatively Honji-suijaku theory of China and Japan and the thought of Buddha Land(佛國土思想) on what is in common and what is different. This study will make their national and cultural traits be more apparent, and make clear that their traits are deep-rooted in their modern society and culture as well.
