초록

예부터 전래되어온 덧배기는 경상도 지역의 서민들이 생활 속에서 즐겼던 향토춤이며, 자유롭고 다양한 몸짓으로 추었던 허튼춤이다. 이 춤은 경상도 각 지역마다 풍속에 의한 차이도 있다. 이러한 이유로 사람마다 다르고 지역적 풍속마다 다르게 표현되는 경상도 덧배기의 동작을 분석하여 그 특성을 정리한다는 것이 쉽지 않은 것이다. 하지만 오늘날에 이 춤은 사회 환경의 급격한 변화에 의해 서민들의 생활 풍습과 동떨어진 춤이 되었고, 이제는 보호하고 전승해야만 하는 희소한 춤이 되었다. 이러한 연유로 이 연구는 먼저 경상도 지역에서 다양하게 추어왔던 허튼춤의 동작을, 지난 시대의 사진 자료에 나타난 신체 형상을 분석하고, 이를 전체적으로 정리하여 그 특성을 제시하였다. 이는 급격하게 변화하는 사회 환경과 함께 사라져가는 이 지역의 비형식적인 춤을 체계화하고 전승할 수 있는 토대를 마련하는 것이다.

Abstract

Dutbeki, which has been transmitted from the past, is a local dance enjoyed by the folks of Kyungsangdo Province. It is a type of Huttonchum dance performed with free and varied bodily gestures. Because of different local customs existent in various parts of the region, Dutbeki dance shows distinct features from performer to performer and from locale to locale. This makes it rather cumbersome to analyze in an orderly fashion the characteristics of the dance movements. Today, with rapid changes in social circumstances, the dance has become disconnected from the life of local folks. These days it is rarely performed, so it requires an urgent attention for preservation and transmission for survival. At this juncture, my study attempts to analyze the movements of Huttonchum, which is performed in wide variations in Kyungsangdo Province. Bodily motions appearing in photographic images from the previous era are examined for systematic compilation and their characteristics are identified. I hope that this work provides a sound basis to facilitate its transmission to the next generations and thereby save it from the danger of extinction amidst the rapid progression of social change.
