Special Issue on Research Methods Used for Public Opinion Research in Asia: Opportunities and Challenges

The Asian Journal for Public Opinion Research(AJPOR), the journal of the Asian Network for Public Opinion Research(ANPOR) will publish a special issue focused on methodological challenges, limits, and opportunities for improvements for future research on public opinion issues in Asia in August 2020.

We want to publish papers that study all contemporary methodological questions within the field. If the current methods are not appropriate, how can they be adapted, or should they be replaced by other methods? Under these circumstance what are the challenges when adapting these methods?Or, what can public opinion research learn from adapting methods currently in use in other scholarly fields?

We expect to publish imaginative and interesting papers that include both empirical applications and thought papers. We hope to contribute to the further development of public opinion research in Asia by showcasing methodological advancements that demonstrate their usefulness in public opinion theory, research, and practice.

Subject Coverage

Potential topics for the issue include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • New perspectives and techniques in public opinion research
  • Comparisons between quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Consolidation and application of the most relevant methods
  • Critiques of methods (e.g. their implications or even their fundamental proposals) with proposals for improvements
  • New tools and techniques in survey, interviews, and content analysis
  • Differences in methodology and concepts when comparing approaches across different empirical studies
  • Regulation of access to data
  • Ethical, legal, and regulatory challenges to public opinion research and methods to address the challenges
  • Challenges in producing critical research

AJPOR Call for Translated Papers

One of the goals of ANPOR in increasing awareness of the work we are all doing in our respective countries and making our research more accessible internationally. To help support this goal, the Asian Journal for Public Opinion Research (AJPOR) has decided that, as a service to members, we will publish translations of the best new public opinion research published in Asian languages. We are currently accepting suggestions for papers to publish.

The editorial board will decide which previously published papers to translate and include in AJPOR. We will always approach the author(s) of the paper to get his permission prior to translating and publishing it. English versions of the paper should be shorter than 2,000 words. If the author feels comfortable translating his paper or writing a shorter version in English, we will encourage him to do so. If he does not feel comfortable translating his own paper, we can ask an ANPOR member to translate it for him.

Suggestions for the best (non-English) papers related to public opinion research from your country's journals may be sent to AJPORSubmissions@gmail.com. Suggestions may be made by anyone, including the paper's authors, and should include titles/author/previous publication information. If possible, an English abstract or a brief statement about the topic of the paper should be included. You may also tell us why you think this paper is important.
