Performing arts is an intangible arts that disappears immediately at the moment it is presented and remains only in the memory of the performer's body and audience. The same repetition, restoration and reproduction of the disappeared performance is impossible, but artists of all times and places have tried various recording methodology to leave their performances in the tangible form. The performing arts archive is where performing arts are recorded, preserved, and utilized. In the fourth industrial Revolution era, library institutions in developed countries are turning into institutions that support creative activity by not only artists but also the general public. Korea's performing arts archives should also shift from the role of an old archive to a platform to create new cultural contents. This paper summarizes the changes in the Korean performing arts archive and presents the creative application of the performing arts archive in response to the fourth industrial revolution.
The core of Laban Movement Analysis, which is used for academic research purposes, is that the individual's psychological or emotional state through movement is expressed in external motion by internal intention, which is symbolic of internal emotions. In addition, the Laban motion analysis focuses on analyzing the structure of the object of movement and its structure comparatively and analytically with the past or other structures, and the analyzed grammars of the dance ultimately influence each other in psychological, social and cultural aspects 'Relationality' provides clues to be found. It also provides a resource of records in terms of the system implied from the 'momentary nature' of dance, which has educational value as a multidisciplinary research material.
Un jour, à la fin d'un symposium autour du célèbre film « La Bataille d'Alger » de Pontecorvo, quelqu'un a dit que l'histoire véridique était trop difficile à retrouver (à savoir ce qu'il s'était vraiment passé), il fallait donc la créer (dans le sens d'inventer). J'étais si surpris par cette conclusion anti-historique que je n'ai pu répondre. Nous pouvons faire l'histoire au présent par nos actions, mais ce qui a été fait est fait, et restera historique autant que possible dans la mesure où des historiens sérieux et libres pourront faire leur travail. Max Stirner a dit « Nous ne pouvons être libre de tout, mais nous pouvons tenter de faire nos écrits aussi libres que nous sommes ». Si nous rapportons cette idée à l'Histoire, cela veut dire que ce n'est pas parce que l'histoire est le résultat des recherches faites par des humains qu'elle doit être faussée. L'homme est faillible mais il est aussi perfectible. En tant qu'historien du cinéma, les questions importantes sont de savoir ce qui constitue une archive, (le Mal d'archive de Derrida, qui développe la pensée sur la constitution de la connaissance selon Foucault, intervient très à propos, ici) et comment les utiliser, dans les films en particulier, fiction ou documentaire.
Dance is an art that includes not only art historical facts, but also a series of processes for dancers' body, choreography, and the creation of entire process of dances and their lives. In other words, dance is the art of embodying the experience and consciousness of the dancer as the subject, and embodying it through the physical body, and therefore, the existing empirical study which relies solely on the literature in the history of dance study is difficult to deliver a complete history. Oral history is a new methodology historical writing that overcomes the limitations of research methods based on literature centered documents. Oral history in the field of dance is that the dancer becomes the subject of the history of dance's narrative. The memory and testimony of a dancer can become a history, complement the missing parts of the documentary record, and amount to analysis and interpretation to attempt the history of dance from various perspectives. The history of dance through oral history analysis thus generates another view from the literature. The oral history is acted as a prism that can explore the sociocultural discourse of the time and the history of dance. As a new academic challenge for the history of dance field, I expect to be able to review the artistic, social, and cultural functions and roles of dance beyond the limit of existing literature-oriented history study and to be able to progress to various the history of dance.
The advent of the handheld camera has dramatically transformed film production and consumption in countless ways. French director and theorist, Alexandre Astruc focuses on the development of 16mm camera and foretell film will be used as a tool to realize the personal vision of the author like other art. As proof of his claim French New Wave and Cinéma vérité create the film with handheld camera on the real location to capture new reality. Their films are distinguished itself from other films made by conventional Hollywood studios. Similarly, John Cassavetes in the United States began to focus on the handheld camera. Since then the handheld camera has become one of the popular shooting methods. Especially, handheld camera are noted for their agile movement and mobility as a way to capture various realities. However, with the advances in technology, lighter cameras and higher resolution have changed in different ways. The technology is neutral, one shooting method does not serve for one philosophy or ism. At one time, handheld shooting is now used as not only a means to capture the real world but also a tool to mimic a realistic feeling.
This study investigated the specific effects of dance themed movies on dance students in their passion for dance and affect. The related data is generated by choosing a method of Convenience Sampling and used a sample of 112 dance students in high school of arts which located in Seongnam-si, South Korea. The dance students divided into 3 group of school year and also 2 group of gender. The dance themed movies which are used in this research are First Position, Billy Elliot and Mao's Last Dancer. Also, the dance students were asked to answer the survey which are based on the Self-administration. In order to obtain several findings below, Frequency analysis, Exploratory factor analysis, Reliability analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Correlation analysis and Linear structural relation model were applied to the gathered data using statistics utility SAS 9.4. First, there was a significant difference between the school years in the passion for dance and affect of students after watching movies. Second, there was a significant difference in students' affect depended on their majors (dance major is divided into three specialized major which are ballet, korean dance and modern dance). Third, there was a significant difference in the passion for dance and students' affect which is irreverent to their dance career (such as years they have learned dance). Forth, there was a significant difference in the passion for dance and negative affect of 'dance' students after watching movies. To summarize, the findings demonstrate that there is a partial difference, specially significant effects on their negative affect in the dance passion and affect of dance students depended on their characteristics after watching dance themed movies.
