Research Ethics Committee Operating Regulations

1. Purpose
The purpose of these regulations is to establish the composition and operation
of the Research Ethics Committee of the Society for Korean Obesity and
Metabolism Studies, which publishes the Archives of Obesity and Metabolism
(AOM).
2. Establishment
The Society has established a Research Ethics Committee to achieve the
objectives of the research ethics regulations and to conduct detailed reviews
on any violations and their outcomes.
3. Composition
The Research Ethics Committee comprises the following:
1) One Chairperson of the Ethics Committee
2) Five Research Ethics Committee Members
(3) External experts
may be included, as necessary, to review ethical issues raised.
4. Appointment and Term
1) The Chairman of the Research Ethics Committee shall be
appointed by the President from among those with the qualifications of a
director.
2) The term of office for the Chairman and the members of
the Research Ethics Committee shall be two years, and they may be reappointed.
5. Duties
1) The Research Ethics Committee oversees the following
matters:
(1) Issues related to research and publication ethics concerning manuscripts
submitted to or published in academic journals.
(2) Research activities aimed at enhancing ethical awareness in academic
journals.
2) The Research Ethics Committee reviews violations of
research ethics submitted to the committee and may establish necessary
regulations.
3) The Research Ethics Committee reviews and resolves
submitted cases within 60 days from the date of receipt.
4) The Chair of the Research Ethics Committee may request
the submission of materials or reports from the relevant principal investigator
or researcher if deemed necessary for review.
5) Investigations into research ethics violations must be
conducted confidentially.
6. Meetings and Quorum
1) The Research Ethics Committee is, in principle, held
once a year. However, special meetings may be convened at the discretion of the
Chair, and the frequency may be adjusted as needed.
2) If a research ethics violation is reported, the Chair
determines whether to convene the Research Ethics Committee.
3) To convene meetings of the Research Ethics Committee,
the attendance of a majority of its members is required.
7. Other matters
Matters not specified in these regulations shall be determined by the Research
Ethics Committee.
