Abstract

This study analyzed in nutrient contents changes of adult's favorite foods between March 2019 and July 2020 after policy implementation nutrient-poor foods based on special act on safety control of adult's dietary life in Korea. Among adult's favorite foods manufactured or sold in 2020 as well as 2019, calories and key nutrients in breads, ice creams and pizzas were improved in comparison to those in the other food groups. However, most of the changes in calories or key nutrient contents exist. The newly introduced candies, breads showed slightly greater improvements in calories and key nutrient contents than in 2019. On the other hand, some negative changes were found in newly introduced chocolates in comparison to previous ones. Overall, policy implementation on foods seemed to induce changes in nutrient contents of adult's favorite foods. In particular, nutrition education is reported to have a positive impact on adult's frequency and preference for processed foods, and more systematic and continuous nutrition education measures should be devised to help adult as consumers selectively purchase healthy foods. This research is meaningful in that it is the first study to analyze the quality changes of adult's favorite foods since the high-calorie and low-nutrient food management policy.

Abstract

Bungkang (Syzygium polyanthum) is a medium to tall plant which produces medicinal root-bark, the plant is normally found along inland river bank and produces small white flowers and fruits. Essential oils are among the most interesting components of the plant extracts consisting mostly of monoterpenoid or sesquiterpenoids. They are used as therapeutic agents in ethno, conventional, and complementary alternative medicines. Investigation and evaluation of the essential oil of Syzygium polyanthum as well as the antibacterial, antioxidant and antifungal activity was ascertained. The experiment was performed. 100 chemical constituents were obtained and two pure compound was isolated as Eugenol (1) and Farnesol (2). Significant growth inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus, (ATCCⓒ25923) Klebsiellia pneumonia (ATCCⓒ19155), Salmonella typhi (ATCCⓒ14028) and Escherichia coli (ATCC©25922) and the fungal strains Aspergillus flavin, Aspergillus niger, Candida, tropicalis, and Fusarium oxysporium was observed from the essential oil at concentration of 500 ㎍/mL. Antioxidant potential was observed to be strong of 18.42 ㎍/mL when compared to the control of 15.23 ㎍/mL. The result indicated that the oil obtained from root-bark of Syzygium polyanthum can be considered as an agent for antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal in pharmaceutical food and cosmetic industries trails.

Abstract

Blood transfusion in the neonatal period remains a therapeutic act, that no one dares to consider it as perfectly innocuous and that it is advisable to make rare, considering its risks as well immunological as infectious. The present work is a retrospective study, conducted in neonatal intensive care unit, in the University Hospital MOHAMED VI, Marrakech, during the period from January 1st to December 31st, 2019. All newborns were included in this work, who received one or multiple transfusions of red blood cells (RBC). Our study covered 60 neonates with a total of birth: 794 neonates, with a prevalence of 7.55%, hospitalized for various indications (60% of newborns were at term, 31.7% premature and 8, 33% were post-mature. The majority of transfusion procedures were performed during the first week of life. This is explained by the frequency of haemolytic anemias by fœto-maternal incompatibility. The main indications for transfusion were haemolysis, anemic syndrome and haemorrhagic syndrome. The average number of transfusion episodes was 1.95 +/- 1.47 per patient. Newborns were polytransfused in 18.33% of cases. A single transfusion accident was found in our study. However, we did not observe a correlation between the maternal diseases, the state of the newborn, and the transfusional indication.
