Abstract

Background and Objectives: Kathrat-i-Ḥayḍ, or Heavy Menstrual Bleeding (HMB), is one of the most common reasons women are referred to gynaecologists, with a prevalence of 10-15%. Despite its frequency, scientific validation has been lacking. Therefore, an attempt was made to evaluate the efficacy of Qurs Kahruba in treating HMB. Methodology: Diagnosed patients (n=30), both married and unmarried, aged between 18-40 years, with regular cycles experiencing heavy bleeding in duration, amount of flow, or both, were included in the study conducted at NIUM Hospital. Qurs Kahruba was administered orally as two tablets thrice daily for 5 days during menstruation for 3 consecutive cycles. The primary outcome was measured using the PBLAC (Pictorial Blood Loss Assessment Chart) scale to assess the effect of Qurs Kahruba on menstrual blood loss at each cycle. The secondary outcome involved using the Multi-Attribute Utility Assessment (MAUA) scale to determine the improvement in quality of life (QoL) at each follow-up. Results were analyzed using the Student's t-test and paired proportion tests. Result: The PBLAC scores at baseline and after the 3rd cycle were 555.63±172.72 and 103.87±39.72, respectively, showing a significant difference (P <0.001). The MAUA scores at baseline and after the 3rd cycle were 35.90±17.34 and 97.39±2.86, respectively, also demonstrating a significant difference (P <0.001) and indicating an improvement in quality of life (QoL). Conclusion: Qurs Kahruba was found effective in reducing HMB in terms of both duration and amount of flow, as well as in improving the quality of life (QoL) of the patients. Furthermore, it was found to be safe and well-tolerated by the patients.

Abstract

This study was conducted based on the results of a 25-week convergence arts program for the elderly, and was conducted to verify the extent to which the elderly were effective in reducing loneliness and improving their sense of well-being, happiness index, and quality of life after participating in this program. This study targeted 32 people in the experimental group and 40 people in the control group to determine how a convergence arts program using music and video as a tool in the lives of the elderly affects their loneliness, sense of well-being, happiness index, and quality of life. For this purpose, pre/post verification was conducted. Data were analyzed using the statistical program SPSS 22.0, and frequency analysis, independent sample 𝑡-test, paired sample 𝑡-test, and paired 2_non-parametric Z-test were performed. As a result of the study, in the areas of loneliness, communication_loneliness (𝑡=2.113*, 𝘱=.043), self-esteem_loneliness (𝑡=5.620***, 𝘱<.001), parent-child conflict_loneliness (𝑡=2.406*, 𝘱=.022), and loneliness total score (𝑡=5.578***, 𝘱<.001) were post-hoc averages. The score was lower than the pre-score. In other words, it appeared that loneliness decreased. Also, in the happiness index area, physical happiness index (𝑡=-3.558**, 𝘱=.001), emotional happiness index (𝑡=-3.680***, 𝘱=.001), social happiness index (𝑡=-3.436**, 𝘱=.002), cognitive happiness index (𝑡=-3.942***, 𝘱<.001), and occupational happiness index. (𝑡=-3.792***, 𝘱=.001), and the total happiness index score (𝑡=-3.707***, 𝘱=.001) showed that the post average score was higher than the pre score. This means that the happiness index of seniors who participated in the 25-week convergence arts program increased. Lastly, in the area of quality of life, health and influence within the family (𝑡=-2.823**, 𝘱=.008), establishment of a support base (𝑡=-7.322***, 𝘱<.001), ease of use of resources (𝑡=-6.211***, 𝘱<.001), and total quality of life score (𝑡=-6.211***, 𝘱<.001) were The average post-intervention score was found to be higher than the pre-score. In other words, it means that the quality of life has improved. This means that the happiness index of the elderly increased after participating in the 25-week convergence arts program.Lastly, the average scores for health and influence within the family (𝑡=-2.823**, 𝘱=.008), establishing a support base (𝑡=-7.322***, 𝘱<.001), ease of use of resources (𝑡=-6.211***, 𝘱<.001), and the total score for quality of life (𝑡=-6.211***, 𝘱<.001) was found to have a higher post-Intervention Score than the pre-score. This is interpreted as an increase in quality of life. In other words, the convergence arts program has a positive impact on mental health by lowering the loneliness of the elderly and improving their sense of well-being, happiness index, and quality of life.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a commonly reported condition that affects women of reproductive age. It is a recurring set of physical, psychological, and behavioural variations that occur during the second half of the menstrual cycle and can have a significant impact on overall health. The pathogenesis of PMS is complex and multifactorial, with several possible causes such as hormonal imbalances, sodium retention, and nutritional deficiencies. Despite being a recently described problem, PMS-like symptoms have been reported for centuries, and the condition can significantly disrupt the quality of life of reproductive-age women, causing substantial morbidity and an adverse impact on interpersonal relationships. Unani scholars have surmised that various menstruation-related psycho-neurological and behavioural symptoms such as anxiety, depression, forgetfulness and sleep changes can also occur due to Mushārakat-al-Rahim (involvement of the uterus). In this article, we discuss the Unani perspective of PMS and explore the historical as well as evidence-based medicine benefits of PMS. Therefore, a comprehensive search of classical Unani literature, as well as PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, and other indexing databases, were searched for Premenstrual syndrome. Conclusion: According to Unani scriptures, the treatment is to treat the underlying cause, such as aberrant temperament and psychological and environmental issues. Unani drugs have emmenagogue, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and neuroprotective qualities that can help alleviate premenstrual symptoms. Unani herbs such as C. sativus, Vitex, agnus castus, P. vulgare, N. Jatamansi, M. officinalis, and Z. officinalis have been clinically demonstrated to be effective in PMS. Thus, traditional knowledge authentication and conservation are vital for future research and appreciated for application in the modern day. Furthermore, randomised controlled trials, comprehensive reviews, and meta-analyses are suggested.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the current state of Korean language education in Kenya and identify the positive effects of Korean language learning on mind healing for Kenyan Korean language learners. Unlike in other countries, the majority of Korean language learners in Kenya are motivated by hobby and interests rather than employment or academic purposes. In this study, a survey was conducted among Kenyan Korean language learners to investigate the mind healing effects of learning Korean language. The survey results confirmed that Korean language learning has a positive psychological impact and leads to transformation of values. Furthermore, it was observed that not only the teacher-led classes and learner interactions but also the self-study and cultural education contribute to the healing process. Learners who experienced these positive effects expressed willingness to recommend Korean language learning to other people for healing purposes. These results show a significant positive correlation between language learning and healing. Also provides a direction for expanding Korean language education for healing purposes. Subsequent research, involving clinical trials, could provide more definitive evidence regarding the healing effects of language learning.
