Asthma is a chronic inflammatory airway disease triggered by allergens including house dust mite, food and environmental factors. Korean red ginseng extract (KRGE) has anti-inflammatory effects in asthma, atopic dermatitis and allergic rhinitis. This study aimed to evaluate the suppressive effects of KRGE on mixed-granulocytic asthma induced by Der p 38. In mixed granulocytic asthma-like the mice due to Der p 38, KRGE administration reduced the infiltration of neutrophils and eosinophils in the lungs. In addition, KRGE suppressed the levels of Th1, Th2 and Th17 cytokines in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and reduced serum IgE level. In BEAS-2B cells, Der p 38 increased the secretion of inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), which was suppressed by pretreatment with KRGE. Neutrophil apoptosis was delayed by Der p 38 and it was inhibited by KRGE pretreatment. The pro-apoptotic effects of KRGE on neutrophils were closely associated with the activation of caspase 9 and caspase 3, and a decrease in the B-cell leukemia/lymphoma 2 protein (BCL-2)/BCL-2-associated X protein (BAX) expression ratio. These results suggest that KRGE has anti-inflammatory effect in asthma, especially mixed granulocytic asthma, and serves as a potential therapeutic alternative for alleviating mixed granulocytic asthma.
This study examines the representation of Korean cuisine (K-Food) in Netflix's "Black and White Chef: The Culinary Class War," exploring its implications for K-Food's cultural capital in the global culinary landscape. Through qualitative analysis of the show's content, including narrative structure, visual representations, and culinary discourse, we investigate how K-Food's cultural capital is constructed and disseminated through global media platforms. The research draws on theoretical frameworks from cultural studies, media studies, and food studies, particularly Bourdieu's concept of cultural capital and theories of culinary globalization. Our findings reveal a complex portrayal of K-Food that simultaneously reinforces and challenges traditional notions of culinary cultural capital. The show navigates tensions between tradition and innovation, authenticity and adaptation, and local and global identities, reflecting the "glocalization" process in ethnic cuisine globalization. Furthermore, the study highlights how the show's unique 'black spoon' versus 'white spoon' narrative provides insights into the intersection of social class and culinary practices. The research contributes to the growing body of literature on food media and cultural globalization, offering practical implications for culinary professionals, policymakers, and media producers involved in K-Food's global expansion. It also suggests future research directions, including studies of comparative analyses of K-Food representations across various media platforms.
The aim of this study was to collect foundational data on occupational therapists working in developmental rehabilitation service providers by examining their work conditions, employment status, and job satisfaction. The survey was conducted from June 3 to August 2, 2024, and involved 71 occupational therapists from developmental rehabilitation institutions in Jeollanam-do and Gwangju. First, demographic analysis revealed that the majority of participants were women in their 20s with four-year university degrees. In terms of job-related characteristics, most therapists were employed as full-time staff and held certifications as sensory rehabilitation therapists, enabling them to offer sensory rehabilitation services. Regarding the current status of developmental rehabilitation services, therapists typically treated 4 to 6 children per day, with services provided twice a week per individual. Service fees often ranged from 40,000 to 50,000 KRW. Work environment satisfaction was rated at 2.82 out of 4, with factors such as years of experience and monthly income influencing overall satisfaction. The study concludes that the high proportion of non-regular employment among occupational therapists calls for improvements in job security. Additionally, dissatisfaction with service fees suggests a need to revise them in line with professional expertise.
This study investigated nursing students' major satisfaction and self-efficacy in relation to career preparation activities during high school. Career preparation activities included career education, counseling, club activities, and volunteer activities. The subjects were 246 nursing students from G and C Province and Seoul. The data were collected from 10 July to 16 August 2018 using a structured questionnaire. SPSS 21.0 program was used for data analysis with frequency and percentage, t-test, ANOVA, and Scheffé test. The results showed that there were significant differences in major satisfaction and self-efficacy according to subjects' age, gender, and grade. Subjects who had chosen their major themselves or who had experienced career education and guidance during high school also had higher levels of major satisfaction and self-efficacy. Subjects who participated in club activities during high school showed higher self-efficacy, and subjects who performed volunteer activities showed higher satisfaction with their major. In conclusion, since various career preparation activities during high school seem to be closely related to major contentment and self-efficacy among nursing students, it would be necessary to allow high school students to explore their interested major in a variety of ways, including education, counseling, club activities, and volunteer work.
Resilience in nursing students has gained attention as a core nursing competency in recent years. The purpose of this study was to determine the levels of anger, social-emotional competency, and resilience among nursing students and to examine the impact of anger and social-emotional competency on resilience. This cross-sectional study was conducted from April 17 to June 19, 2024, with a total of 228 nursing students from the first to fourth grade at E University in S City, South Korea. Data were collected through an online survey using a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 29.0 WIN Program. The results showed that the influencing factors of resilience were grade, satisfaction with university life, rumination and diffusion as dimensions of anger coping strategies, and social-emotional competency, with an explanatory power of 61.0% (F=26.318, p<.001). These findings provide a basis for the development of interventions to enhance adaptive anger coping strategies and social-emotional competency in nursing students to promote resilience. This study is significant for its multifaceted approach to anger as an emotion that is frequently felt and expressed in daily life and the social-emotional competency and resilience that nurses must possess.
The objective of this study was to identify preferences for Neurocosmetics designed to prevent appetite stimulation among obese women in Korea. The participants consisted of 20 postpartum obese women, and the experiment lasted approximately four weeks. The experimental procedure involved placing the perfume in a bottle and instructing participants to smell the fragrance from a distance of 5 cm for three seconds at five-minute intervals. Surveys were administered both before and after the experiment, with participants providing their responses independently. A comparison of the initial appetite score of 4.70 on Day 1 and the reduced score of 4.16 one hour after the experiment on Day 7 indicates a general decrease in appetite. This finding suggests that the aroma of the blood orange blend may help suppress appetite. This study also verified the stress relief and appetite control effects of inhaling the natural blood orange scent through the Stress Response Inventory and an appetite evaluation table, which served as objective experimental indicators. In conclusion, the findings of this study suggest that the use of natural fragrances, such as the blood orange blend, could provide a foundation for developing Neurocosmetics that induce positive physiological and emotional responses related to appetite control.
