Abstract

This thesis is intended to show the trait of King Youngjo. Jeong do jeon(鄭道傳), King Saejo(世祖), King Injo(仁祖), King Sukjong(肅宗), the politician thought the palace as governmental place. So each building in the palace was called as 'prosperity of nation', 'Confucianism', 'participate with beautiful scenery', 'the purpose of each building'. King Youngjo regarded the palace as a symbol of his private place. He named Salbang(司謁房) Eokseokwa(憶昔窩). That was continuous with his father. He named Bokyungdang(寶慶堂) Tansaeingdang(誕生堂) not as an expression of self-pride but as a filial gesture to his birth mother. He named Kyungsondang(慶善堂) Choomodang(追慕堂) as it reminded him of his childhood. Jipkyungdang(集慶堂) was a place where King Youngjo worked at his advanced age. He named it Jongyoungdang(從容堂) or Jeongwadang(靜臥堂). This testifies to the trend of the late Chosun dynasty when routines were highly regarded both outside and inside of the palace.
