Abstract

The literature suggests that situational crime prevention (SCP) strategies have been effectively utilized as a tool for crime deterrence and/or assistance in crime investigations. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate how the theoretical framework of situational crime prevention strategies can be applied to crime prevention activities in the AI era. Additionally, this study aims to show how current AI technology can serve as a platform for SCP practices. The higher education system plays a critical role in providing specialized training and skill development for both future and current law enforcement agents. To that end, this research focuses on exploring how newly updated facial/image recognition techniques can be employed to train future law enforcement personnel in higher education institutions in the United States. This framework underscores the importance of facial/image recognition technology as a preventive strategy, increasing risks for potential criminals and deterring them from committing crimes.
