Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to clear the honorific system of west Gyeongbuk dialect, using the realistic conversational materials. Through the researches about the honorific system of Gyeongbuk dialect that have been done up to now, we must consider 2 topics. The one is the distinction of ‘haiso’ and ‘haso’ degree, and another is the distinction of formal/informal style. The distinction of ‘haiso’ and ‘haso’ degree can be justified by the existence of each endings in all types of sentence. The distinction of formal/informal style can be justified by the fact that the degrees of informal style are not matched to each degrees of formal style, but covered to at least 2 degrees of formal style. Through the examination of the allomorphs of each sentence final endings and their realization conditions, we can set up the honorific system for hearer in west Gyeongbuk dialect as the system that contains 4 degrees in formal style and 3 degrees in informal style.
