Abstract

This experimental study on the poetry and poetics of Dong-Kyoo Hwang is not a deductive inference but an inductive survey. From 1961(his 1st. collection) he has faithfully written 608 poems through 2006(his 13th. anthology). And he has been loved and succeeded in literary, cultural and academic world simultaneously. So far there are many fine results from the viewpoint of study on the ‘contents’ and ‘technique’ in Hwang’s poetry. And he himself has declared his poetic method or secret of imagination in many ways. But we still thirst after more objective approach toward his aspects with his poetic configuration. With the help of some trial terms : serial poetry, variational poetry, movemental poetry, compound poetry and drama lyric and so on, it is possible to examine the transition and relation between Hwang’s poetry and poetics. Although a tentative theory based on the statistical observation, this shows that the aspects of Hwang’s poetic configuration are connected with his poetics very closely.
