Aims and scope

JCEA is a refereed biannual journal that takes a lead on a new scholarship in Asia. In the past, the JCEA was dedicated to the study of current political, social and economic trends in East and Southeast Asia. But now, the JCEA finds unique aspects of Asian scholarship by expanding its scope to (socio-technical) convergence and future (network) studies. The JCEA editors are working very hard to boost the scholarly presence of new Asian scholarship around the world and secure its reputation as an emerging world-class publishing outlet. The editors welcome manuscripts based on original research or significant reexamination of existing literature.

The journal was founded in 2001 by the Austrian Association of East Asian Studies in cooperation with leading scholars from Japan, Taiwan and South Korea.

In 2010, the Cyber Emotions Research Center at YeungNam University, Korea, became a co-publisher of the journal with the World Association for Triple helix and Future strategy studies (WATEF).

In 2012, the Austrian Association of East Asian Studies had to suspend its operation as a consequence of the ongoing financial crisis in Europe and the subsequent lack of financial support form European donors. In June of the same year, JCEA was transferred to the Cyber Emotions Research Center (English website) at YeungNam University, Korea, and the Asia Triple Helix Society.*

* In 2015, the Asia Triple Helix Society was expanded and renamed the WATEF.

The Journal of Contemporary Eastern Asia is indexed in Scopus and DOAJ.
