Evaluation and Diagnosis of Sleep Bruxism

Abstract

Bruxism is the masticatory muscle activities involving grinding or clenching the teeth, which is divided into sleep and awake bruxism. Methods for evaluating sleep bruxism include clinical methods to investigate symptoms and signs and the use of supplementary tests such as intra-oral devices, electromyography, and polysomnography. Portable electromyography monitoring the masseter muscle activity is useful for clinical application. Polysomnography is the most accurate method for diagnosing sleep bruxism.
