This study aimed to investigate the effect of different conditions on the implant stability test (IST) value of three-unit implant bridges. Fifteen pairs of specimens were prepared. Two internal conical-type implants were placed in artificial bone using a torque of 35 to 45 Ncm. Three-unit monolithic zirconia bridges (Perfit ZR) were fabricated using CAD-CAM. Im plant Stability Quotient (ISQ) values were measured for each implant. IST value was measured under different conditions: healing abutment, without cementation, with cementation, one prosthesis unscrewed, and two prostheses unscrewed. The results showed statistically significant differences according to the conditions (p <0.05). The lowest IST level was observed in the groups tested on healing abutment and the prosthesis without cementation. The highest IST level was observed in the groups with cemented prostheses. There was no significant difference according to screw loosening. IST values for all groups measured above 79, indicating high stability with consistent tendency. The present study implied that IST values could be used as a reference restrictedly for assessing implant stability and conditions on bridge-type prostheses.
Arthrocentesis and lavage is a conservative method to treat temporomandibular joint disorders by discharging substances that cause inflammation and pain in the temporomandibular joint and resolving temporomandibular joint adhesions. The temporomandibular joint is susceptible to malignant external otitis and skull-base osteomyelitis due to its anatomical prox imity. This case is a treatment of performing arthrocentesis and lavage in a patient with secondary acute abscess formation in the temporomandibular joint derived from primary skull-base osteomyelitis caused by malignant external otitis.
The associations between lowered oral health status and frailty in elderly have been previously reported in many studies. Despite the increasing number of elderly populations in Korean society, there have been no at tempt to develop clinical practice guideline and diagnostic criteria for oral frailty. Hence, this study reviewed the previous cohort studies and systematic reviews about oral frailty and proposed 15 recommendations as an oral frailty guideline for Korean elderly on the basis of the evidence-based methodology. This clinical practice guideline will provide overall guidance on the identification, diagnosis, and management of oral frailty in pri mary dental care setting and finally help to achieve healthy aging in elderly
Frailty is an age-related syndrome of increased vulnerability and decreased physical status and activity Sar copenia is a key component of physical frailty Poor oral health is common among older adults and can impair essential activities of daily living and contribute to frailty. Oral frailty is associated with the loss of oral function and increased care needs. this paper reviewed the literature on frailty, oral frailty and association between of them in older peoples
Evidence shows oral health is essential for preventing general frailty and increasing healthy life expectancy. In this study, the oral health of the elderly over sixty-five years old was examined through representative indi cators selected in the 5th National Health Plan(HP2030). Data from the 5th (2010-2012), 6th (2013-2015), 7th (2016-2018), and 8th (2019) Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys were used. The subjects were aged sixty-five years or older, and the percentage of having twenty or more natural teeth, the complaint rate of chewing discomfort, the rate of brushing right after lunch, and the rate of oral examination were calcu lated by year. The percentage of people aged sixty-five or older with twenty or more teeth increased from 45.8% in 2010 to 56.3% in 2019. Also, the complaint rate of chewing discomfort decreased from 44.3% in 2010 to 37.0% in 2019. The practice rate of tooth brushing right after lunch increased from 24.6% in 2010 to 34.5% in 2019. Meanwhile, the oral examination rate increased from 12.2% in 2010 to 28.1% in 2019. The level of oral health of Korean elderly over 65 is improving. Nevertheless, almost half of all older adults do not have 20 or more natural teeth. Also, the degree of discomfort experienced in chewing did not decrease significantly. Therefore, continuous efforts are needed to improve the oral health problems of the elderly.
