Submission of Manuscripts

Authors should submit the manuscript file to the Editorial Office (managing editor), using e-mail (kangjihye84@korea.kr). And authors preparing papers in excess of 30 journal pages (including Figures and Tables) should contact the Editorial Office prior to submission. All contents issued in the “Journal of Species Research” are provided at our homepage (www.nibr.go.kr) as PDF files without charge.

Preparation of Manuscripts

Manuscripts should be written in English, with document editing software that is compatible with Microsoft Word, using a normal plain font (e.g., Time New Roman) of size 12 and double-spaced. The terms should be borrowed from academic terms and the terms such as scientific names must be in italics. All pages should be numbered serially, with the first page a title page, the second an abstract, followed by the main text, references, tables, legends for figures in that order and figures (one figure per page).

This page should include the following items:
1) Manuscript type (e.g., research paper, review, note);

2) Title (capitalized onlythe first word and formal names, taxa, geographic locations, etc.);

3) Short running title (maximum 8 words);

4) Full names for all authors;

5) Institutional affiliations (normal font in italics) for all authors;

6) Contact full information (e-mail address, phone number and fax number) for the corresponding author. The corresponding author should be marked with a superscript asterisk on the top-right to the author’s name.

Abstract and Keywords

1 The abstract should be from 100 to 200 words and should summarize the aim of the research, the methodological approach, and the significance of the results. More than 3 key words should be provided in alphabetical order.

Main Text

The main text should normally be subdivided into five sections: introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion (results and discussion) and acknowledgements. But some manuscripts may follow a difference format.

Full reference information should be provided for all literature cited in the text. In the main body of a research paper, in case of a paper by single author, it is described as Anderson (2008), in cases of two co-authors, as Burnham and
Anderson (2002) and in cases of more than three co-authors, as Leirs et al. (1997). When more than two dissertations are quoted, they are cited in chronological order (such as Merrick and Loughlin, 1997; Brandon, 2000; Milette and Trites, 2003). When more than two dissertations that are published by the same author in the same year are quoted, it is listed as (Courchamp et al., 2000a; 2000b). References should be listed in alphabetical order by author surname. Below are the formats of common types of references. Please, see a recent issue of the Journal for other format.
1) The first letter of books or reports, book titles of magazines should be capitalized.

Figure Legends

Figure legends should be on a separate page following the References.

Tables and Figures

Tables and Figures should be referenced in the text in an appropriate location and arranged one per page. [e.g., ...China and Russia, and near the Japanese archipelago (Fig. 1, Table 1)]. Each table should be on a separate page with the table legend. Figures should be planned so that after reduction they will fit one column (8 cm) or two columns (17 cm) in width, and be no more than 23 cm in INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS length. Allow sufficient space so that the legend can be placed beneath the figure. The author’s name and short title of the paper should be included in the file name of each figure or group of figures. Figures should be submitted as separate files in TIF, JPG or PPT formats etc.

Particularly good photographs that pertain to a paper being submitted will be considered for use on the cover page. Submit the image file(s) (300 dpi or preferably 600 dpi, TIFF or EPS format etc.) with the final copy of the manuscript, preferably scalable to a 14×18 cm format. Include a brief legend for the inside front cover (send as a separate Word document). See the inside cover of a recent issue for the legend format.
