Abstract

Considering the tendency of articles in Journal of the Daesoon Academy of Sciences and Studies on Religion, and dissertations and these, it is distinct to witness that studying Daesoon thought has been approached in many ways. For example, the text in the approach includes the studies based on faith, doctrine, rituals, or ethics as well as the comparative studies on other religions. Those comparative studies compare various elements of Daesoon Thought with those of traditional Korean religion such as Daoism, Confucianism, Buddhism, Cheondoism, and Won Buddhism. In addition, researching the history of Daesoon Jinrihoe is as important as these studies. The shortage of resources and documents may require personal communication through the interview with devotees who were involved in the activities from the early days in the religious order. The mythical aspect of the order is also necessary along with the study on the history, for instance, its background, symbol, significance lay in it, which should be described or interpreted on the various perspectives. Establishing an expert group by subject is also essential. A single researcher may approach various fields of study, yet the one has no choice but to encounter the limit to a certain degree in terms of development. Unlike the past, the study on Daesoon Thought is mainly carried out through Daesoon Academy of Sciences, which publishes its related journal, Journal of the Daesoon Academy of Sciences. Besides that, it is indispensable to publish articles on other religious journals such as Studies in Religion and Journal of the Korean Academy of New Religions. The study of Daesoon Thought should interpret and explain Jeungsan by focusing on the approach of Jeongsan and Wudang. Especially, Wudang, the founder of Daesoon Jinrihoe, is a very important figure. In this regard, many historical facts about him or his teaching and analects in Daesoon newsletters need to be systematically arranged.
