Vascular malformations in the oral cavity are congenital vascular anomalies with potential functional and aesthetic im plication. Over the years, the demand for effective and minimally invasive treatments for oral vascular malformations has increased. This study presents a case series of six patients diagnosed with oral vascular malformations, who underwent sclerotherapy using sodium tetradecyl sulfate. Treatment showed satisfying results without any recurrence.
This paper reviewed prolotherapy as an approach to treating temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD), focusing on temporomandibular joint subluxation and hypermobility. Prolotherapy, commonly used in orthopedics, involves injecting substances like dextrose or lidocaine to promote healing in musculoskeletal conditions. Clinical studies in which this prolo therapy was used for TMD were reviewed. Total 13 papers involving 372 patients (Male 90, Female 282) were examined, considering factors such as dextrose concentration (10%~50%), injection frequency (one to four times), injection period (one to four weeks) and injection sites. The assessment primarily focused on pain reduction and changes in maximum mouth opening after prolotherapy. In all papers, a consistent trend of pain reduction after prolotherapy was observed. Regarding maximum mouth opening, there were 6 cases of decreased range and 7 cases of increased range. With prolotherapy's rec ognition as a new medical technology for TMD, it emerges as a potential alternative treatment, highlighting its significance in the field.
Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are challenging to treat despite various existing methods. Stress on the temporo mandibular joint (TMJ) leads to an accumulation of reactive oxygen species, promoting inflammation and cartilage degra dation. Resveratrol, a natural polyphenol, inhibits inflammatory pathways and suppresses chondrocyte apoptosis, making it a promising candidate for TMD treatment. This review analyzes six studies with 3 kinds of animals on the intra-articular application of resveratrol for treating arthritis. This paper aims to elucidate the potential of resveratrol administrations into the articular cartilage to improve severity of arthritis, providing a foundation for future research and clinical investigations.
In clinical practice, patients often exhibit extensive dental wear and fractures due to deleterious habits such as bruxism, clenching, and suboptimal oral hygiene. These cases may necessitate comprehensive full-mouth restorations that typically involve numerous dental visits, which can potentially lead to patient fatigue, delayed recovery, and uncertain treatment outcomes. The present study reports an innovative approach in which provisional restorations are digitally designed and fabricated on the same day as tooth preparation. The morphology of the provisional restorations that the patient adapted to is then replicated onto the final restorations with dual-scanning technique. The study aims to simplify treatment progress and achieve higher predictability of the final restorations, highlighting the advantages of dual-scanning techniques in simplifying and expediting the treatment process.
Oral vestibule is important in oral health. Various vestibuloplasty techniques are used in cases involving vestibule loss. This case report describes the treatment outcomes from performing modified Kazanjian vestibuloplasty with artificial der mis graft and connective tissue graft for severe trismus and mandibular denudation caused by shallow vestibule and post operative scarring after facial contouring surgery. Based on an accurate understanding of the anatomical structures within the oral cavity, problems caused by multiple surgery due to inflammatory complications after a facial contouring surgery, including scarring, discomfort during mouth and cheek movements due to loss of oral vestibule, trismus, alveolar bone exposure, and gingival recession, were resolved with a single surgery. When performing intraoral surgery, it is necessary to understand the meaning and importance of vestibule and perform incision and suturing to minimize the shallowing of vestibule. In cases involving vestibule loss, appropriate techniques should be selected to ensure restoration of vestibule.
