Identity of Daesoon Thought and the Problem of Its Research Sources

Abstract

This article aims to explore research topics related to Daesoon Jinrihoe (大巡眞理會) in the philosophy of religion. The main content to achieve this purpose consists of three parts: the academic position and characteristics of philosophy of religion, the main research topics in the philosophy of religion, and the research topics on Daesoon Jinrihoe in the philosophy of religion. This article is based on the view that topics from multiple disciplines can promote new academic researches while making even the surrounding phenomena unfamiliar. According to this point of view, the research topics related to Daesoon Jinrihoe can be diversified through the topics of the philosophy of religion including the perspective of god, human beings, and the world. The academic characteristics of Daesoon Jinrihoe in the philosophy of religion should be maintained when researchers suggest their research topics. In this regard, its characteristic refers to ‘the attitude of objectively observing and analyzing religion, not the attitude of apologetics to support a specific religious teaching.’ In the future, the research topics related to Daesoon Jinrihoe can be discovered not only in the philosophy of religion but also in various sub-fields of religious studies. Furthermore, the topics can be developed through thematic approaches including religious tourism or religious languages.
