Effects of Five Personality Factors on Career Identity and Career Decision Making Self-Efficacy: The Moderating Roles of Career-Related Parent Support

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the interaction effects of personal characteristics(big 5 personality) and career-related parent support on career identity and career decision making self-efficacy. This study focused on middle school students who start career development in earnest. 180 students responded to our questionnaires including five personality factors Inventory, career-related parent support scale, career identity scale, and career decision making self efficacy scale. All five personality factors were significantly correlated with career decision making self-efficacy and career identity was positively related with four factors except neuroticism. The moderating roles of career-related parent support in the relationship between five personality factors and career identity was found to agreeableness, and in the relationship between career decision making self-efficacy and five personality factors were in four personality factors except for openness. The results of this study suggest that it can be effective to use appropriate support strategy to adolescent's career development by understand the adolescent's personal characteristics.
