Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop and apply the coaching program that analyzes competency based on job experiences to improve career identity and career planning(concreteness, challenge, autonomy) for those who have difficulties in career development and to verify the effectiveness of it. Participants were 15 adults finding a new job or considering about changing their jobs, 7 for the experiment group and 8 for the control group, who had job experience more than 2 years. The individual coaching program consisted of 8 sessions including an orientation. Each session was conducted for two hours, once a week for about 4 months. To examine the effect of the coaching program, pre-tests, post-tests and follow-up tests were carried out to both the experiment group and the control group before and after the program and in 5 weeks after completing the program. Two(group) * two(time) mixed ANOVAs were conducted. The results showed that the coaching program had statistically significant influence on career identity and career planning. Compared with the control group, scores of career identity and career planning of the experiment group increase and also were maintained across the follow-up test. Finally, limitations for this study and suggestions for future research were discussed.
