Abstract

In this study, a test-bed system simulated a tunnel and concrete track is tested on cite and invested an allowed limit of multi-layered sound absorbing panel for reducing noise reflected on the concrete track in train tunnel considering the criteria and limitation on the theoretical back ground. The studied results are an effective evaluating system of the sound absorbing coefficient influenced fluid effects depending on the vehicle speed in the urban train tunnel and measuring not only structural behaviors of maximum displacement and acceleration of the panel but also dynamic characteristics of damping ratio and natural frequency.

Abstract

The road network system of major domestic urban areas such as city of Seoul was rapidly developed and regionally expanded. In addition, many kinds of life-lines such as electrical cables, telephone cables, water&sewerage lines, heat&cold conduits and gas lines were needed in order for urban residents to live comfortably. Therefore, most of the life-lines were individually buried in underground and individually managed. The utility tunnel is defined as the urban planning facilities for commonly installing life-lines in the National Land Planning Act. Expectation effectiveness of urban utility tunnels is reducing repeated excavation of roads, improvement of urban landscape; road pavement durability; driving performance and traffic flow. It can also be expected that ensuring disaster safety for earthquakes and sinkholes, smart-grind and electric vehicle supply, rapid response to changes in future living environment and etc. Therefore, necessity of urban utility tunnels has recently increased. However, all of the constructed utility tunnels are cut-and-cover tunnels domestically, which is included in development of new-town areas. Since urban areas can not accommodate all buried life-lines, it is necessary to study the feasibility assessment system for utility tunnel by urban patterns and capacity optimization for urban utility tunnels. In this study, we break away from the new-town utility tunnels and suggest a quantitative assessment model based on the evaluation index for urban areas. In addition, we also develop a program that can implement a quantitative evaluation system by subdividing the feasibility assessment system of urban patterns. Ultimately, this study can contribute to be activated the urban utility tunnel.

Abstract

In this research, thermal design data such as heat transfer coefficient on the wall surface required for ventilation system design which is to prevent the temperature rise in the underground utility tunnel that three sides are adjoined with the ground was investigated in numerical analalysis. The numerical model has been devised including the tunnel lining of the underground utility tunnel in order to take account for the heat transfer in the tunnel walls. The air temperature in the tunnel, wall temperature, and the heating value through the wall based on heating value(117~468 kW/km) of the power cable installed in the tunnel and the wind speed in the tunnel(0.5~4.0 m/s) were calculated by CFD simulation. In addition, the wall heat transfer coefficient was computed from the results analysis, and the limit distance used to keep the air temperature in the tunnel stable was examined through the research. The convective heat transfer coefficient at the wall surface shows unstable pattern at the inlet area. However, it converges to a constant value beyond approximately 100 meter. The tunnel wall heat transfer coefficient is 3.1~9.16 W/m2°C depending on the wind speed, and following is the dimensionless number:. This study has suggested the prediction model of temperature in the tunnel based on the thermal resistance analysis technique, and it is appraised that deviation can be used in the range of 3% estimation.

Abstract

Recently, the necessity of deep and double-deck tunnels has been grown day by day due to the increase of traffic volume at metropolitans and thus the study on the divergence of those tunnels becomes required. Therefore sensitivity analyses were conducted with FLAC 2D program by selecting ground condition, coefficient of lateral pressure, support pattern, and depth of rock cover as parameters. Ultimately, this study is to find the optimal shape and support method of a diverged section. As the results of this study, it turned out that the box type gave higher stability of the section than arch type unlike the general thought. It can be explained that the arch type has about 30% bigger excavation area than the box type. When the ground conditions are poor, steel pipe grouting reinforcement gives higher stability than rockbolt reinforcement, but its thickness and range do not give a great influence on the stability of the enlarged section.

Abstract

In this study, we investigated the wear measurement methods for slurry pipe applied in the field of mining and oil sand industry and theoretical equations related to the prediction of wear in slurry pipe through literature review. Average daily wear rate and wear rate per excavated distance were determined from slurry discharge pipe thickness measurement data periodically measured at the actual slurry shield TBM site in Singapore. The wear rate of slurry pipe for Bukit Timah Granite was obtained. The wear rates for G (V) grade and mixed zone were 1.5 times higher than that of G (I) to G (IV) grade. Slurry pipe wear rate tended to increase in proportion to the slurry discharge velocity. The optimal slurry pipe replacement or rotation frequency can be estimated through the selection of the pipe wear rate considering geological condition and the reasonable pipe management thickness.

Abstract

It is necessary to conduct a detailed geotechnical investigation on the tunnel section in order to secure the tunnel design and construction stability. It is necessary for the importance of geotechnical investigation that needed for the analysis of distribution and size of fractured fault zone and distribution of groundwater in tunnel .However, if it is difficult to perform the ground survey in the tunnel design due to ground condition of the tunnel section and the limitation conditions such as civil complaint, the tunnel design is performed using the result of the minimum survey. Therefore, if weathered fault zone exists in the face occurs under tunnel construction, the reinforcement method is determined by carrying out the design process to secure the stability of the tunnel. The most important factor in reinforcing the tunnel excavation surface is to secure the stability of the tunnel by performing quick reinforcement. In particular, if groundwater leaching occurs on the excavation surface, more rapid reinforcement is needed. In this study, fractured fault zone exists on the tunnel excavation surface and displacement occurs due to weathered fracture zone. When the amount of groundwater leaching rapidly increased under the condition of displacement, the behavior of tunnel displacement was analyzed based on tunnel collapse. In the study, reinforcement measures were taken because the first stage displacement did not converge continuously. After the first reinforcement, the displacement was not converged due to the increase of the groundwater leaching amount, and the second stage displacement occurred and chimney collapse occurred.

Abstract

Recently, the development of multi-purpose tunnel that has functions of roads and waterways has been attention for efficient utilization of underground space. However, there is no study on the multi-functional tunnels behavior for the convert of iterative function and change of water pressure. In this study, the vulnerable section was analyzed due to repeated functional change. A basic review was implemented for the operation of the multi-purpose double-deck tunnel. Also, the vulnerable section for convert of iterative function of multi-functional tunnel has been analyzed by simulation. Management of multi-functional tunnel should considered in various analyzed and some problems. The criteria for management of multi-functional tunnels is proposed.

Abstract

In this study, a preliminary study was undertaken for development of a tunnel incident automatic detection system based on a machine learning algorithm which is to detect a number of incidents taking place in tunnel in real time and also to be able to identify the type of incident. Two road sites where CCTVs are operating have been selected and a part of CCTV images are treated to produce sets of training data. The data sets are composed of position and time information of moving objects on CCTV screen which are extracted by initially detecting and tracking of incoming objects into CCTV screen by using a conventional image processing technique available in this study. And the data sets are matched with 6 categories of events such as lane change, stoping, etc which are also involved in the training data sets. The training data are learnt by a resilience neural network where two hidden layers are applied and 9 architectural models are set up for parametric studies, from which the architectural model, 300(first hidden layer)-150(second hidden layer) is found to be optimum in highest accuracy with respect to training data as well as testing data not used for training. From this study, it was shown that the highly variable and complex traffic and incident features could be well identified without any definition of feature regulation by using a concept of machine learning. In addition, detection capability and accuracy of the machine learning based system will be automatically enhanced as much as big data of CCTV images in tunnel becomes rich.
