본 연구의 목적은 죽고자 하는 의도 없이 자신의 신체를 고의적으로 훼손하는 행동, 즉 비자살적 자해(non-suicidal self-injury)를 다차원적인 측면에서 측정할 수 있는 도구인 자해 기능 평가지(The Functional Assessment of Self-Mutilation, 이하 FASM)를 번안하고 타당화하는 것이다. 자해기능 평가지의 하위 척도 중 비자살적 자해 동기와 관련된 척도에 대한 요인분석 결과, 원척도의 4요인(개인 내적 정적 강화, 개인 내적 부적 강화, 사회적 정적 강화, 사회적 부적 강화) 구조와 달리 본 연구에서는 2요인(개인 내적 동기, 사회적 동기) 구조로 확인되었으며 적절한 수준의 내적합치도를 나타냈다. 또한 타당도를 살펴보기 위해 비자살적 자해와 관련이 있다고 여겨지는 심리특성들과의 상관 분석을 실시한 결과, FASM에서의 높은 총점은 자살사고 및 자해 행동과 정적 상관을 보였으며, 절제/자기훈련 그리고 비충동성과는 부적 상관을 나타냈다. 본 연구의 결과는 자해 기능 평가지가 심리측정적으로 신뢰로운 도구임을 시사한다. 또한, 자해 행동의 이면에 있는 자해 동기에 따라 차별적인 치료적 개입을 제공하는 것이 효과적임을 보여준다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 의의와 한계점에 대하여 논의하였고 이를 바탕으로 후속 연구에 대하여 제안하였다.
The purpose of the present study is to develop and validate the Korean version of the Functional Assessment of Self-Mutilation (FASM). This measures various aspects of Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI), that is, the deliberate behavior of damaging one's own body without the intent to commit suicide. Unlike the original scale, which has 4 factors ('automatic positive reinforcement', 'automatic negative reinforcement', 'social positive reinforcement', and 'social negative reinforcement'), an exploratory factor analysis showed that the Korean version of FASM has 2 factors ('inner motivation' and 'social motivation'). According to the reliability analysis, there was adequate internal consistency. FASM appeared to be a valid measure, with positive correlations between suicidal ideation and self-destructive behavior and negative correlations between self-discipline and non-impulsiveness. FASM proved to have satisfactory psychometric properties and be a helpful measure in providing a specific treatment intervention by identifying the reasons of NSSI. Finally, implications and limitations of this study were discussed, and further research suggestions were also made.
