Organizations are investing in information systems for an ever-increasing number of end-user tasks. Extracting benefit from these investments increasingly depends on supporting effective use of information center and satisfying information center users. Information center is information intensive and the use of advanced technology may support user for delivering an unique capabilities in an organization. Information center represents an important source which seems very well suited for end-users support investigation. This research explores the end-user support factors that correlate with user satisfaction in information center. To exam user satisfaction, information supporting , service reliability, and system capabilities were identified as potential predictors of end-user support satisfaction at information center. Three hypotheses have been tested with the survey of 252 end-users examines 18 potential end-user support factors such as information supporting, service staff attitude, and system capabilities at information center. Service quality gap between perceived importance and performance for each support factor, is computed. The relationship between these service quality gaps and user satisfaction are tested. This study presents that the level of information supporting , service reliability, and system capabilities are significantly to user satisfaction, and it is influenced by the extent of service quality gap between perceived importance and performance for each support factor.
IT outsourcing has become a critical component of organizations, but improper expectations, ambiguous contracts and unclear goals frequently cause the failure of IT outsourcing. Especially we have to be concerned about the uncareful management of customer-supplier relationships based on a psychological contract perspective. This study focuses on the obligations of contractual parties for IT outsourcing which influence the outsourcing relationship(OR) and the successful performance of IT outsourcing(OP). The supplier obligations consist of the achievable infrastructure(S1) and capability(S2), and the customer obligations is composed of the acceptable environment(C1) and acceptability(C2) for IT outsourcing. This paper shows that the S1, S2, and C2 have an effect on the OR, the OR on the OP, and the S2 also on the OP directly. The four components of customer-supplier obligations are mutually related to each other. What is more, we must notice that the S2 has strong connections with the C2.
Automatic Recommendation System of Panel pool should be designed to support universal, expertness, fairness, and reasonableness in the process of review of proposals. In this research, we apply the theory of probabilistic ontology to measure relatedness between terms in the classification of academic domain, enlarge the number of review candidates , and rank recommendable reviewers according to their expertness. In addition, we construct a researcher network connecting among researchers according to their various relationships like mentor, coauthor, and cooperative research. We use the researcher network to exclude inappropriate reviewers and support fairness of reviewer recommendation process. Our methodology recommending proper reviewers is verified from experts in the field of proposal examination. It propose the proper method for developing a resonable reviewer recommendation system.
The purpose of this paper is to imply for the assessing framework of next generation Enterprise Portals'(EPs) function through the lens of organizational knowledge creation. As the emerging “suite” products such as Smart Enterprise Suite (SES) converges EPs with collaboration and content management, EPs are no longer just a gateway to information and content. EPs are emerging as the center of convergence for many complementary technologies. Considering that this trend is common and knowledge creation is one of key goals of EPs, it is important to assess EPs’ function through the knowledge creation process. This paper reviews literatures to set initial assessing elements of EPs’ function, then adopts Delphi Technique to prove and categorize the elements according to the knowledge creation process. The samples are consisted of 7 professional knowledge management consultants at Entrue Consulting Partners, LG CNS. This paper may be significant in providing a new vision to the evaluation of EPs by combining a theoretical model with a practical situation.
Semantic libraries can be used for EDI messages to exchange by implementing the semantic dictionaries. This paper describes the design information of semantic libraries for the field engineers to implement the semantic dictionary using metadata. The components of semantic libraries are semantic elements, semantic units and mapping tables. The basic characteristics and design methods related implementing are proposed. Also the metadata semantic dictionaries including the components and rules are introduced.
The books and circulation-related data in the Library Automation System(LAS) of C-academic library were collected and analyzed, and also the method which may be applied to the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) based on the results was suggested in this paper. Collected data were 269,387 bibliographic data of books, 12,281 patron data, and 39,269 circulation records. User identity, circulation frequencies, total number of circulated books, and publication year as relation factor from the analyzed data of circulation records were extracted. They were also analyzed, and verified by correlation coefficient.
Actually a diffusion of a Semantic Web application and utilization are situations insufficient extremely. Technology most important in Semantic Web application is construction of the Ontology which contents itself with characteristics of Semantic Web. Proposed a suitable a Method of Building Web Ontology for characteristics of Semantic Web and Web Ontology as we compared the existing Ontology construction and Ontology construction techniques proposed for Web Ontology construction, and we analyzed. And modeling did Ontology to bases to Description Logic and the any axiom rule that used an expression way of SWRL, and established Inference-based Web Ontology according to proposed ways. Verified performance of Ontology established through Ontology inference experiment. Also, established an Web Ontology-based Intelligence Image Retrieval System, to experiment systems for performance evaluation of established Web Ontology, and present an example of implementation of a Semantic Web application and utilization. Demonstrated excellence of a Semantic Web application to be based on Ontology through inference experiment of an experiment system.
The purpose of this study is to analyze and evaluate the characteristics of online catalogs’ interface of elementary school libraries, and to propose how to design user-friendly interfaces. The online catalogs of elementary school libraries are categorized into 6 types. Such topics as the features of search methods, the record display formats, the terminology usage, and the special features of the 6 types are discussed. Some shortcomings are examined and how to improve them is suggested.
This study identifies the interdisciplinary structures of 8 scientific disciplines in science and technology using the data from journal citations and web links, and compares the interdisciplinarity among these scientific disciplines. The interdisciplinarity refers to interdisciplinary connections among scientific fields and the degree of interdisciplinarity is measured by the number of associated fields and the rate of self-citation. A re-arranged classification scheme for science and technology was adopted to identify subject categories of journals and web pages. Web link analysis revealed a few additional interdisciplinary connections that were not identified by the journal citation analysis, thus demonstrating that it is useful means of investigating the interdisciplinarity of scientific fields. Besides, in most of the cases the interdisciplinarity of the engineering fields were found greater than that of the fields in natural sciences in both analyses.
This study proposes a topic distillation algorithm that ranks the relevant sites selected from retrieved web pages, and evaluates the performance of the algorithm. The algorithm calculates the topic score of a site using its hierarchical structure. The TREC .GOV test collection and a set of TREC-2004 queries for topic distillation task are used for the experiment. The experimental results showed the algorithm returned at least 2 relevant sites in top ten retrieval results. We performed an in-depth analysis of the relevant sites list provided by TREC-2004 to find out that the definition of topic distillation was not strictly applied in selecting relevant sites. When we re-evaluated the retrieved sites/sub-sites using the revised list of relevant sites, the performance of the proposed algorithm was improved significantly.
Reference resources management tools can be divided into three types: Desktop-based, Web-based, and Web 2.0-based. This study is intended to compare and analyze the functions provided by the three types of tools and also to compare and evaluate their usability. Each Tools were chosen to represent each type. For comparison and analysis of the functions provided by the three types of tools, we divided the process of using reference resources management tools into four steps and then compared and analyzed sub items in each step. Satisfaction, understandability, conformance and efficiency that items for comparison and evaluation of the usability were compared using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. We surveyed the participants to collect data for quantitative research; and interviewed them and analyzed the results for qualitative research. Here are the results from evaluating the usability of Tool A(Desktop-based), B(Web-based), C(Web 2.0 based). First, Tool B had the highest mean user satisfaction, followed by Tool A and Tool C. Secondly, Tool B had the lead in understandability, followed by Tool A and Tool C. Thirdly, Tool A had the highest mean conformance, followed by Tool B and Tool C. Fourth, Tool B had the highest mean efficiency, followed by Tool A and Tool C.
The standard metadata systems are very popular for the description of structures and semantics of information resources to realize sharing and exchanging information in global ubiquitous environment. In real application domain, various metadata elements are reused together with mix-and-match manner. An application system using diverse metadata systems is compelled with refinement and interoperability of metadata elements. Application profile is the general approach to resolve the various problems occurred in metadata application systems. This paper proposes Application Profile Core Ontology (APO) that can achieve the goals and functions of application profile, and describes metadata application system based on APO.
Since the use of the Internet has proliferated, the availability of illegal and harmful content has been a great concern to both governments and Internet users. Among various solutions for issues related to such content, Internet content filtering technologies have been developed for enabling users to deal with harmful content. In recent years, commercial filtering has become massively popular. Many parents, teachers and even governments have chosen commercial filtering software as a feasible technical solution for protecting minors from harmful information on the Internet. The Internet content filtering software market has grown significantly. However, Internet content filtering software has led to intense debate among civil liberties groups. They deem this to be censorship and argue that Internet filtering technologies are simply unworkable because they have inherent weaknesses. They are critical of the fact that most filtering has violated free speech rights and will eventually wipe out minor and controversial, yet innocent incidences of free speech on the Internet. In this article Internet content filtering, in particular PICS/RDF-based label filtering, so-called Internet content rating system, will be explored and its advantages and drawbacks relating to end-users' autonomy and freedom of expression will be discussed.
Recently, information portals, national institutions, and integrated information centers, which are eager to acquire quality contents, actively share contents. Korean national knowledge is recognized to be superior in terms of its specialty and reliability. Currently, the distribution of national knowledge in Korea is at the beginning stage as the content sharing was intended to enhance the users' accessibility to the information and ease of information use. In this study, we identified the national knowledge distribution status in Korea and abroad by analyzing the roles of the information providers, information search portals, and Korea Knowledge Portal. We also conducted in-depth interviews with six experts, who represent academic institutions, libraries, specialized information centers, and commercial ventures. To enable effective Korean national knowledge distribution, we generated suggestions for the respective information providing services to share and cooperate based on the analysis and the interviews.
It will be possible to prevent the infringement of the trademarks and the insueing disputes regarding the originality of the trademarks by using an efficient content-based trademark image retrieval system. In this paper, we describe a content-based image retrieval system using the Self Organizing Map(SOM) algorithm. The SOM algorithm utilizes the visual features, which were derived from the gray histogram representation of the images. In addition, we made the objective effectiveness evaluation possible by coming up with a quantitative measure to gauge the effectiveness of the content-based image retrieval system.
The purpose of this study is to design and implement an ontology-based retrieval system for the electronic records of universities and to compare its performance with the existing keyword-based retrieval system. We used OntoStudio 1.4 for implementing an ontology-based retrieval system, and the test collection consisted of the following: (1) 5,099 electronic records of the 'personnel management notification' created by Korea Maritime University, (2) 20 topics (10 short-topics and 10 long-topics), and (3) the relevant assessments were conducted by the group of human experts. 10 university staff participated in the experiment of keyword-based searching and used the same test collection as used in the experiment of ontology-based searching. The ontology-based retrieval system outperformed to the keyword-based retrieval system in terms of Recall and Precision, and it showed better results with long-topic than with short-topic types.
Global map of science, which is visualizing large scientific domains, can be used to visually analyze the structural relationships between major areas of science. This paper reviewed previous efforts on global science map, and then tried to making a science map of Korea with some new methods. There are several research groups on making global map of science including Dr. Small and Dr. Garfield of ISI (now Thompson Scientific), SCImago research group at the University of Granada, and Dr. Brner's InfoVis Lab at the Indiana University. They called their maps as science map or scientogram and called the activity of mapping science as scientography. Most of the previous works are based on citations between scientific articles. However citation database for Korean journal articles is still under construction. This research tried to make a Korean science map with the text in the proposals suggested for funding from Korean Research Foundation. Two kinds of method for generating networks of scientific fields are used. One is Pathfinder network (PFNet) alogorithm which has been used in several published bibliometric studies. The other is clustering-based network (CBnet) algorithm which was proposed recently as an alternative to PFNet. In order to take into account both views of the two algorithms, the resulting maps are combined to a final science map of Korea.
