In this study, quantitative and content analysis was conducted on 37,818 news articles that were reported on the subject of ‘library’ for 29 years from 1990 to 2018 in order to analyze the tendency of media coverage about ‘library’. First, the quantitative change in media coverage was analyzed according to the criteria by time, subject and media type. In addition, keyword frequency analysis and semantic network analysis were conducted to analyze the trends of the contents of the press and the frames inherent in the press. The results showed that the media showed a major interest in the library’s informational, educational, and cultural functions, and the trend of the subject’s interest was generally consistent with that of the library community, except for the issue of librarianship. Lastly, the main attitudes that the media take toward the reporting of library articles were the reporting and advertising functions.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop Research Data Management (RDM) Services in a domestic university library of Korea. In this study, elements and levels of RDM services are examined and in-depth interview was conducted with university researchers affiliated in Seoul National University, which has the largest amount of research fund among universities in Korea. Interview was conducted to analyze their data management practices and needs of RDM services. Interview results show researchers’ lack of awareness toward Data Management Policy and data sharing obligations of funding agencies and academic journal publishers. Also, they had trouble managing research data systematically. However, many of the researchers understand the necessary of research data management and education of data management. Based on the interview result, service elements and contents are suggested for RDM services which is consisted of education services, professional consulting services, curation technical services. This study result will help to guide for the planning the future RDM service in university library of Korea.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to assert the justification for actively accepting media education in Library and Information Science and to suggest the media type according to the concept and classification criteria of the media from the perspective of Library and Information Science. In order to present the media type according to the concept of the media, the dictionary concept of the media was reviewed, the language and media for high school students in Korean language, the educational materials for elementary and secondary school students written by Media Education Committee of Korean Society for Journalism & Communication Studies, the educational textbooks for elementary and secondary school students in Library and Information Science, and media classification presented in the RDA of the cataloging rules were analyzed. In addition, the implications were derived based on the analysis results of the concepts and media type. The concept of media was set based on the analysis results and implications, and the media types were presented according to the concepts and classification criteria. In this study, the media was set up in the same meaning as the medium, and it was defined that the media function as a means of communication and that information contained in it can be obtained through the human sensory apparatus through physical objects that contain, transmit or reproduce information. The media was set up as three logical components of the media in this study: information in the media, materials, and representation devices.

Abstract

Since the recent financial crisis in universities has caused the decrease of academic library budget, the resource sharing has been considered by utilizing inter-library loan (ILL) data for solving the financial deficit. This study aims to identify the collection profiles of western monographs’ ILL data among 4-year academic libraries. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, this study analyzes ILL data from 2011 to 2017 using the bibliographic data and ILL transactions of the KERIS union catalog. The findings of the study show that the western monographs was significantly provided by large-scale academic libraries in 2011, however, the extent of major regions expanded, and the number of influential institutions rose in 2016. Second, in 2012, the influence in the ILL network increased in the quantity of western monographs holdings and the proportion of common collections. On the other hand, in 2016, it was also shown that the influence in terms of provision in the ILL network increased in the proportion of unique collections. Lastly, the ILL participating academic libraries were classified into six clusters by a hierarchical clustering analysis of holdings and ILL indexes.

Abstract

This study constructed a cognitive model of information processing to understand the topic of a sound material and its characteristics. It then proposed methods to generate sound summaries, by incorporating anterior-posterior N400/P600 components of event-related potential (ERP) response, into the language representation of the cognitive model of information processing. For this end, research hypotheses were established and verified them through ERP experiments, finding that P600 is crucial in screening topic-relevant shots from topic-irrelevant shots. The results of this study can be applied to the design of classification algorithm, which can then be used to generate the content-based metadata, such as generic or personalized sound summaries and video skims.

Abstract

This study analyzes the actual use data of the websites of university libraries, analyzes the users’ usage behavior, and proposes improvement measures for the websites. The study analyzed users’ traffic and analyzed their usage behavior from January 2018 to December 2018 on the C University website. The website’s analysis tool used ‘Google Analytics’. The web traffic variables were analyzed in five categories: user general characteristics, user environment analysis, visit analysis, inflow analysis, site analysis, and site analysis based on the metrics of sessions, users, page views, pages per session, average session time, and bounce rate. As a result, 1) In the analysis results of general characteristics of users, there was some access to the website not only in Korea but also in China. 2) In the user experience analysis, the main browser type appeared as Internet Explorer. The next place was Chrome, with a bounce rate of Safari, third and fourth, double that of the Explore or Chrome. In terms of screen resolution, 1920x1080 resolution accounted for the largest percentage, with access in a variety of other environments. 3) Direct inflow was the highest in the inflow media analysis. 4) The site analysis showed the most page views out of 4,534,084 pages, followed by the main page, followed by the lending/extension/history/booking page, the academic DB page, and the collection page.

Abstract

In the Fourth Industrial Revolution, students are required to develop in areas such as communication, logic, and creative thinking. Therefore, the university libraries need to develop new services so that students can grow up to be suitable for the new social situations. Havruta is an educational approach that can meet these needs and is one of the measures the university libraries want to apply. Thus, through 1) the investigation of the concept of Havruta, 2) the case study of domestic and foreign university libraries, and 3) interview of the Havtura-based service, this study 4) proposed the Havruta service applicable to the university libraries and 5) conducted a survey of operators and users on the awareness of the Havruta service, space, and contents of the Havruta service, and the willingness of the Havruta service. Results of the survey analysis revealed implications for the areas of the Havruta service - Havruta theme, group organization, textbook rental, simplication of space reservation, data sharing and motivation system.

Abstract

This study developed KISTI CLCM, a curation model suitable for the content life cycle, focusing on the KISTI Content Curation Center. For developing the KISTI Curation Model, the previously developed models DCC, DCC&U, UC3 and DCN models were reviewed and the advantages of the models connected to the mission and tasks of the digital curation center were derived. Interviews with staffs of the KISTI Content Curation Center identified the characteristics of the content and identified the level of achievement of the current task. In addition, this study proposed to enhance usability by developing KISTI content curation waves based on the UC3 model to discover user-centered services and add new values to digital resources.
