This study reports the effect of Mg2+ ions on the behavior of the anionic surfactant in electrophoresis. Intractions of Mg2+ ions with carboxylates and sulfonates resulted large changes in their apparent mobilities. A comprehensive analysis of the electroosmotic and electrophoretic mobilities reveals that major cause for the variation of the apparent mobilities of anions arises from the electroosmotic mobilities.
