Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between negative self-perception, aggressive attitude, and drug problems as relapse factors in substance addicts. In particular, the mediating effect of craving self-efficacy was examined. For the purposes of this study, self-reported questionnaires were collected from 140 addicts; correlation analysis was performed to examine the relationship between the obtained variables, and the mediating effect of craving self-efficacy was confirmed in the relationship between negative self-perception, aggressive attitude, and drug problems. Results showed that negative self-perception and aggressive attitude were positively correlated with drug problems, while craving self-efficacy and drug problems were negatively correlated with each other. In addition, negative self-perception and aggressive attitude predicted craving self-efficacy, and craving self-efficacy predicted drug problems. Moreover, craving self-efficacy partially mediated the relationship between negative self-perception and drug problems, and craving self-efficacy was partially mediated in the relationship between aggressive attitudes and drug problems. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the relationship between negative self-perception, aggressive attitude, and craving self-efficacy when approaching drug problems in substance addicts. Finally, we discussed the limitations and implications of this study and suggested recommendations for future studies.
