본 연구의 목적은 실존불안을 측정하는 실존불안 질문지(Existential Concerns Questionnaire: ECQ)를 타당화하는 것이다. 실존불안이란 ‘죽음, 무의미, 죄책감, 고립, 정체성과 같은 삶의 궁극적 문제에 대한 인식을 동반하는 부정적 감정’으로, ECQ는 해당 영역을 측정하는 22개 문항으로 구성되어 있다. 국내 성인 497명의 자료에 대한 요인분석을 실시한 결과 2요인 Bifactor 모형이 가장 적합했다. 모형기반 신뢰도와 설명된 공통분산을 산출해 척도의 속성과 요인구조를 평가한 결과, 원척도와 같이 일반요인으로 대표되는 총점을 사용하는 것이 타당함을 확인했다. K-ECQ는 내적 일치도와 수렴 및 변별타당도가 모두 우수했으며, 임상 수준의 외상후 스트레스가 있는 집단과 아닌 집단을 91% 정확하게 변별하였다. 이어 민감도와 타당도를 사용해 절단점을 확인했다. 연구 결과 K-ECQ가 실존불안의 고유한 영향력을 측정한다는 것을 알 수 있었다. K-ECQ는 추후 실존불안에 취약하다고 알려진 우울, 불안, 강박, 섭식, 신체화 장애 등의 연구에서 초진단적 역할을 확인하여 치료 및 예방에 기여할 수 있을 것이다.
The present study aimed to validate the Existential Concerns Questionnaire (ECQ), which measures Existential Anxiety(EA), in Korea. EA is ‘the negative emotions accompanied by an awareness of the ultimate concerns of life,’ and ECQ consists of 22 items measuring those concerns. As a result of factor analysis of 497 Korean adults, the two-factor Bifactor model was most appropriate. Additionally, the Omega coefficients and Explained Common Variance were computed to evaluate the psychometric properties. The result shows that most variances of K-ECQ reflected a general factor, so it is reasonable to use a total score like ECQ. K-ECQ showed excellent internal consistency and validities, and discriminated between the clinical posttraumatic stress group and nonclinical group by 91%. It was found that K-ECQ measures the unique effect of EA. In future studies, K-ECQ would contribute to treatment and prevention by confirming the transdiagnostic role in depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsion, eating, and somatic disorders known to be vulnerable to EA.
