Influences of Emotional Vulnerability, Stress, and Body Dissatisfaction on Emotional Eating and Bulimic Tendency:Focusing on Female College Students

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand emotional eating based on the diathesis-stress model and to investigate the relationship between emotional eating and bulimic tendency. This study explored the relationships among affect intensity, negative urgency, and emotional eating, and investigated the moderating role of body dissatisfaction in the relationship between emotional eating and bulimic tendency. In total, 192 female college students participated in this study. The main effect of negative urgency on emotional eating was significant, but the interaction effects were not significant. Body dissatisfaction showed a moderating effect in the relationship between emotional eating and bulimia nervosa. The implications and limitations of this study, as well as directions for future studies were discussed.
