본 연구의 목적은 경계선 성격성향과 우울의 관계에서 정서표현양가성과 경험회피의 매개효과를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울, 경기, 대구, 부산 등의 지역에 거주하는 성인 564명을 대상으로 경계선 성격성향, 정서표현양가성, 경험회피, 우울을 측정하는 설문지를 시행하였다. 연구 결과, 경계선 성격성향과 우울의 관계에서 정서표현양가성과 경험회피가 완전 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 경계선 성격성향과 경험회피와의 관계는 정서표현양가성이 부분 매개하였지만, 정서표현양가성은 이들 간의 관계를 직접적으로 매개하지 않았다. 이와 같은 결과는 경계선 성격성향이 우울과 동반되는 것을 예방하는데 경험 수용의 접근이 유용할 수 있음을 시사한다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 제한점 및 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 논의하였다.
The purpose of this study was to determine the mediating effect of ambivalence over emotional expression and experiential avoidance in the relationship between borderline personality traits and depression. A total of 564 adults participated in the survey. To measure borderline personality traits (PAI-BOR), depression (CES-D), ambivalence over emotional expression (AEQ-K), and experiential avoidance (AAQ-II), were used. Descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation coefficients were used to analyze the data. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to test the research model. The results are as follows. First, ambivalence over emotional expression partially mediated the relationship between borderline personality traits and experiential avoidance. Second, ambivalence over emotional expression and experiential avoidance fully mediated the relationship between borderline personality traits and depression. However, the relationship between borderline personality traits and depression was mediated by experiential avoidance, not by ambivalence over emotional expression. Finally, based on the results, the implications of this study and suggestions for further research were discussed.
