다양한 원인에 의해 발생하는 구강점막질환은 점막의 변형을 동반하기도 하고 점막의 변형없이 증상만을호소하는 경우도 있다. 점막에 병변이 나타나는 경우그 원인요소는 세균, 바이러스, 진균, 타액분비저하,음식물 등의 직접적인 요소도 있지만 복용하는 약물,면역반응, 혈액이상, 전신질환, 정신장애, 등의 간접적인 요소도 분명히 작용한다고 알려져 있다1, 2). 이중 치과재료는 구강내에 오랜시간 존재하게 되고특히 금속의 경우 마모, 부식, 용해반응으로 인하여나타나는 이온형태의 물질이 체내에 흡수되어 면역반응을 일으키거나, 구강점막에 대한 직접적이고 반복적인 접촉으로 구강내 지연형 접촉성 과민반응을 발생시킬 수 있다3, 4). 이들 점막반응은 발적부터 궤양까지다양한 형태를 보이지만 특징적인 징후가 관찰되지는않아 정확한 감별진단은 어려운 경우가 많다5, 6).
