Abstract

This study conducted user experience evaluation by introducing various text mining techniques along with topic modeling techniques for mobile menstrual cycle measurement applications that are closely related to women’s health and analyzed the results by combining them with a honeycomb model. To evaluate the user experience revealed in the menstrual cycle measurement application review, 47,117 Korean reviews of the menstrual cycle measurement application were collected. Topic modeling analysis was conducted to confirm the overall discourse on the user experience revealed in the review, and text network analysis was conducted to confirm the specific experience of each topic. In addition, sentimental analysis was conducted to understand the emotional experience of users. Based on this, the development strategy of the menstrual cycle measurement application was presented in terms of accuracy, design, monitoring, data management, and user management. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that the accuracy and monitoring function of the menstrual cycle measurement of the application should be improved, and it was observed that various design attempts were required. In addition, the necessity of supplementing personal information and the user’s biometric data management method was also confirmed. By exploring the user experience (UX) of the menstrual cycle measurement application in-depth, this study revealed various factors experienced by users and suggested practical improvements to provide a better experience. It is also significant in that it presents a methodology by combines topic modeling and text network analysis techniques so that researchers can closely grasp vast amounts of review data in the process of evaluating user experiences.

Abstract

This study empirically analyzed the proportion and method of Open Access (OA) in Korea, China, Japan, the United States, United Kingdom based on the Web of Science (WoS) papers. In addition, through the verification of the moderating effect, it was verified whether there is a difference in the effect of the amount of citation depending on the maturity of OA according to the countries or academic fields. As a result of the analysis, the proportion of OA was the highest in the UK at 62.7%, and the lowest in China at 38.0%. Second, the UK and US had a high proportion of indicators through self-archiving and APC-based Gold Hybrid, while only the Gold indicators were found to be prominent in China and Korea. Third, in the UK, US and Japan, the higher the proportion of OA, the greater the effect of inducing the citations. However, Korea (B=-0.00003, p<0.01) and China (B=-0.00001, p<0.01) showed the opposite direction. In addition, in most academic fields, the OA proportion had an effect of inducing citation, but a negative effect was found in the engineering field (B=-0.00002, p<0.01).

Abstract

During the COVID-19 period, public libraries produced and provided a variety of online contents to users as an alternative to offline services. The purpose of this study was to analyze the overall management of online contents in public libraries in the post COVID-19 period and to provide a methodological basis for improving online contents management. This study surveyed the overall current state of online content management in 305 public libraries in terms of production, services, and preservation. We also analyzed the librarian’s perception of the online contents management process. As a result of the analysis even after the COVID-19 period, public libraries are efficiently producing and providing online contents and are actively providing this through the library website and social media. In addition, librarians recognized that online contents produced by public libraries are valuable as library resources and predicted that the online content would be produced more in the future. Also, they faced difficulties in production and management due to a lack of professional capabilities and extra workload, but they have recognized the high need for online contents management. Online contents is leading a paradigm shift in public library services. Therefore, attention and effort to activate online content is no longer an option but a necessity.

Abstract

New technologies representing the Fourth Industrial Revolution are already being realized in library services. There is not, however, active research on measures to increase work efficiency by introducing a new technology in the work of “classification” that is part of the traditional librarian jobs they should continue in the future. The Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) has not issued a print version since 2018. This study analyzes cases of WebDewey, Classification Web, and UDC Online. The functions required for the development of the Korean Decimal Classification (KDC) web version were derived, and the final functions suitable for the development of the KDC web version were proposed through AHP analysis.

Abstract

For the record management of administrative information datasets in Korea, it is recommended to utilize SIARD as a transfer specification when transferring administrative information datasets. However, there are many cases where the application of SIARD is not suitable due to the record management unit of administrative information datasets, technical limitations of tools that support SIARD, and the realistic situation of public institutions. In this study, we propose a plan to diversify the transfer specifications of administrative information datasets other than SIARD. In the record management of administrative information datasets, the need to reproduce the user interface associated with the dataset has been discussed but not specifically presented. This study confirms that the user interface is a property to be preserved from the perspective of Significant Properties, proposes a method to effectively reproduce the user interface, and provides an example of actual verification.

Abstract

This study aims to understand students’ perceptions of the spatial characteristics of school libraries when they use them for reading. We selected a set of spatial characteristics by reviewing the literature and conducting a preliminary investigation. Then, we examined how students perceived the importance of and how satisfied they were with each characteristic. In addition, we investigated how students’ perceptions differ by the library uses and reading-related activities. We also studied whether the satisfaction of school library users affects their continued use of the libraries. We also verified whether school library user satisfaction is an intervening variable in continued-use intention, which is affected by spatial characteristics perception. We conducted a survey of 342 students from four middle schools. The analysis of the survey outcomes shows differences in library use due to spatial characteristics such as convenience, communicability, diversity, and safety. Factors such as communicability, comfortability, and ambience affected user satisfaction positively. Both aesthetics and communicability also positively influenced the continued-use intention. Furthermore, we identified that communicability, comfortability, and ambience eventually impacted the continued-use intention via user satisfaction, an intervening variable. The significance of this study is that it considered the direction of the school library to support students’ reading by regarding the school library as a space for reading.

Abstract

To analyze the impact of word embedding on book titles, this study utilized word embedding models (Word2vec, GloVe, fastText) to generate embedding vectors from book titles. These vectors were then used as classification features for automatic classification. The classifier utilized the k-nearest neighbors (kNN) algorithm, with the categories for automatic classification based on the DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification) main class 300 assigned by libraries to books. In the automatic classification experiment applying word embeddings to book titles, the Skip-gram architectures of Word2vec and fastText showed better results in the automatic classification performance of the kNN classifier compared to the TF-IDF features. In the optimization of various hyperparameters across the three models, the Skip-gram architecture of the fastText model demonstrated overall good performance. Specifically, better performance was observed when using hierarchical softmax and larger embedding dimensions as hyperparameters in this model. From a performance perspective, fastText can generate embeddings for substrings or subwords using the n-gram method, which has been shown to increase recall. The Skip-gram architecture of the Word2vec model generally showed good performance at low dimensions(size 300) and with small sizes of negative sampling (3 or 5).

Abstract

With the rapid development of information and communication technology, the speed of data production has increased rapidly, and this is represented by the concept of big data. Discussions on quality and reliability are also underway for big data whose data scale has rapidly increased in a short period of time. On the other hand, small data is minimal data of excellent quality and means data necessary for a specific problem situation. In the field of culture and arts, data of various types and topics exist, and research using big data technology is being conducted. However, research on whether basic information about culture and arts institutions is accurately provided and utilized is insufficient. The basic information of an institution can be an essential basis used in most big data analysis and becomes a starting point for identifying an institution. This study collected data dealing with the basic information of culture and arts institutions to define common metadata and constructed small data in the form of a knowledge graph linking institutions around common metadata. This can be a way to explore the types and characteristics of culture and arts institutions in an integrated way.

Abstract

A school library is where students develop their skills to cope with future uncertainty and can utilize various information materials to build their capability and response abilities to changes. Teachers’ perception is crucial as their guidance is essential for the student to use the school library. Most studies, however, focused on quantitative measurement of the importance of the teachers’ perception as an external environment, and there is a lack of specific categorization of different types of perceptions on the role of the school library. This study aims to examine types of perceptions about the school library among elementary school teachers. To do so, this study used Latent Profile Analysis (LPA), a person-centered approach, to identify teachers’ complex perceptions about the role and importance of the school library, which were difficult to review in previous studies, and the teachers’ most representative types of perceptions. Based on the findings from the above, this study is meaningful in proposing customized measures to operate and promote the school library depending on teachers’ perceptions.

Abstract

This study investigates the development path and intellectual structure of data literacy research, aiming to identify emerging topics in the field. A comprehensive search for data literacy-related articles on the Web of Science reveals that the field is primarily concentrated in Education & Educational Research and Information Science & Library Science, accounting for nearly 60% of the total. Citation network analysis, employing the PageRank algorithm, identifies key papers with high citation impact across various topics. To accurately trace the development path of data literacy research, an enhanced PageRank main path algorithm is developed, which overcomes the limitations of existing methods confined to the Education & Educational Research field. Keyword bibliographic coupling analysis is employed to unravel the intellectual structure of data literacy research. Utilizing the PNNC algorithm, the detailed structure and clusters of the derived keyword bibliographic coupling network are revealed, including two large clusters, one with two smaller clusters and the other with five smaller clusters. The growth index and mean publishing year of each keyword and cluster are measured to pinpoint emerging topics. The analysis highlights the emergence of critical data literacy for social justice in higher education amidst the ongoing pandemic and the rise of AI chatbots. The enhanced PageRank main path algorithm, developed in this study, demonstrates its effectiveness in identifying parallel research streams developing across different fields.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine recent trends and intellectual structures in research related to open data. To achieve this, the study conducted a search for the keyword “open data” in Scopus and collected a total of 6,543 papers from 1999 to 2023. After data preprocessing, the study focused on the author keywords of 5,589 papers to perform network analysis and derive centrality in the field of open data research and linked open data research. As a result, the study found that “big data” exhibited the highest centrality in research related to open data. The research in this area mainly focuses on the utilization of open data as a concept of public data, studies on the application of open data in analysis related to big data as an associated concept, and research on topics related to the use of open data, such as the reproduction, utilization, and access of open data. In linked open data research, both triadic centrality and closeness centrality showed that “the semantic web” had the highest centrality. Moreover, it was observed that research emphasizing data linkage and relationship formation, rather than public data policies, was more prevalent in this field.
