Abstract

I researched how the three needs like as autonomy, relatedness and competence are applied in the self-determination theory in addiction-related counseling. Addiction-related clients do not have to visit voluntary in counseling center. Even visiting, it is difficult to experience the counseling outcome because of low motivation about concentration of commitment and change in counseling. As a result, the counseling is early terminated in many cases. So one of most important skills for the counselor, who counsels addiction-related client, is understanding of motivation and resistance of client in the initial counseling.. I expect this study to be basic research for counselors to apply these three needs in the self-determination theory in counseling field.
