Abstract

Purpose - The purpose of this paper was to analyze the Chinese government's announcement of the RMB's appreciation on July 1, 2010, and its aim was to ascertain whether the appreciation has affected Chinese export prices by empirically measuring the degree of the exchange rate pass-tough on those prices. Research design, data, and methodology - Using 73 HS trade categories with cross-industry and time-series data, the panel estimation of a fixed-effects model has been applied to measure the degree and stability of any exchange rate pass-through effects. The estimation results show that the export prices of most trade categories were affected by the exchange rate changes. The pass-through effect was generally small, at about -0.485, and statistically significant in most export prices. Results - The empirical results indicate that China would lose its advantage and competitiveness in export if the RMB were appreciated continuously and rapidly because its export goods would no longer operate under strong monopolistic competition. Conclusions - The implications for China's exchange rate policy suggest that it would be better for the RMB to appreciate slowly and gradually rather than radically. It is clear that it would be allow the capital free flow in Chinese overall economic interest to reduce the continuous appreciation pressure on the currency and pave the way for improvements in export distribution competitiveness.

Abstract

Purpose - The elderly do not want to know what they want and what happiness is, and have no interest in their society. Thus, many studies have been made to investigate real-life situations and to find a solution. Further studies are needed to investigate the effect of the elderly's dating upon happiness. This study investigated the effects of the elderly's dating upon life satisfaction. Research design, data, and methodology - After coding, SPSS Win18.0 was used. The study was investigated as follows. The subjects were 530 elderly of 3 cities in Chungnam who live without children. A total of 512 questionnaire responses were used after we excluded 18 questionnaire because of incomplete responses. Results - The elderly's date value accounted for 3.22 of 5 in full. In this study, the interviewees (82.3%) said normal or higher level to be satisfied with the date. Conclusions - With the extended life span of the elderly, their chances to retain or make new partners have increased. Considering this trend, social workers and others in senior centers should give health services to the elderly to consult and give educational programs to be free from prejudice and conservative attitudes. Most of the elderly had desire to date but thought that with prejudice and bias.

Abstract

Purpose - The total amount of advanced Corporate Pension Insurance products exceed 148 trillion Korean Won at the end of 2016. For a firm with over 300 employees, when a bill on compulsion of introduction of Corporate Pension Insurance products, currently pending in court, is passed, Corporate Pension shall be an essential. The findings of the paper will provide a guideline for understanding on firm's attributes and its effects towards introduction of Corporate Pension Insurance products. Research design, data, and methodology - The data were collected using statistics of employer panel survey from Korea Labour Institute in 2013. The study analyses a sample survey on 1,775 outstanding enterprises and their HR department among whole corporations in Korea. For analysis of data, empirical testing by Logistic Regression was utilized. Results - As an outcome of empirical testing, variables on share of regular employees and the aged employees in over 50's generates a significant statistical meaning. It eventually gives a great impact on purchase of Corporate Pension scheme. Moreover, variables on corporate financial statement, current sales, current net income, total amount of the debts, labor cost per person also has a vital influence on introduction of Corporate Pension Insurance products. Lastly, variables on firm's labor relationship have no effect except for the execution or non-execution of HR consulting. Meanwhile, Variables affecting a choice on pension schemes types among firm's attributes are a share of regular employees, current net income, execution or non-execution of HR consulting etc. These variables represents a statistical implication. According to their each features, they prefer DB or DC plan. Conclusions - Introduction of corporate pension scheme is apposite to contemporary Korea's situation entering a hyper-aging society and firms with a high share of regular employees, the weight of aging, current sales, current net income and labor cost per person are exceedingly active in purchasing Corporate Pension Insurance products. However, after the introduction of corporate pension scheme, firms which has an implementation of consultation on human resource management, flexible benefits plan, job security and welfare system prefer DC plan whereas from financial perspective firms with high net income prefer DB plan.

Abstract

Purpose - The objective of the current research is to explore success factors of the 'Night Markets' in Korea. Unlike other countries, where the markets are culturally established based upon various socioeconomic factors, the night markets are relatively new phenomena in Korea and are created by the government's support. Since the first introduction in 2011, now there are 34 Night Markets that are operating or are in the process of operation. Some of them attract nearly 100,000 customers a day, while some are discontinued shortly after the introduction due to lack of visitors. Its influence on the customers' behavioral motives of engaging in various activities in the night markets is increasing. However, because of its brief history in Korea, not much of research has cast attention on them. It is imperative to figure out the success factors of the night markets, so that other night markets can learn the secret of successful operation of the markets. Research design, data, and methodology - The research is based upon both qualitative and quantitative data. Data are collected from multiples levels of the night market related parties. Four groups are chosen: customers, night market sellers, sellers' union and government officers who are in charge of the market. Conventional survey formats are employed for customers and night market sellers. For night market union and government officers, survey and in-depth focus group interview methods are applied. Of the night markets in operation, commonalities of successful or well established ones are elaborated. Results - Night Market operation success factor are sought utilizing Porter's The Competitive Advantage of Nations model (1990). Results are shown that successful night markets commonly have satisfactory 'Factor Conditions.' Specifically, established night markets have either nearby big cities or tourist attractions in common. While these have fair 'Firm Strategy/structure/rivalry,' and 'Related and supporting industries,' they commonly demonstrate weakness in 'Demand conditions.' Conclusions - A successful night market incurs new customers not only to the market itself but also to the traditional periodical market the night markets are within. Government support to the night market can be justified where the circulation of new customer to the night market and the night market to the periodical market mechanism is in effective.
