Abstract

This study explores the relationships between knowledge and classification. Classification schemes have properties that show the representation of entities and relationships in structures that reflect knowledge being classified. Four representative classifying methods. i. e. hierarchies, trees, paradigms, and faceted analysis those brings new knowledge are analyzed and those strengths and weaknesses are described. Based upon the analysis, the links between knowledge and classification are verified. Finally a better way of representing knowledge structure through classification schemes in the future is suggested.

Abstract

A knowledge classification is based on different types of knowledge system. which depends on classified objects, purposes, times, regions, and scholars. The classified contents. however, do not show any significant difference in any times or regions, though there are differences in representation methods and in arrangement priority of representing knowledge, Knowledge or library classification reflects the structure of a contemporary society and is decided by social philosophy of the time. The basic structure of knowledge system in the past was formed in the ancient time, and since then, it has been continuously developed. In the course of this process, the development of studies has generated other branches of studies, playing a significant role in changing the whole system of studies. This kind of development will continue to occur and many new branches of information will appear. resulting in taking each category of knowledge classification.

Abstract

This study is to analysis copyright law to relate online transmission and digitised of information in order to promote information sharing in knowledge society. The regulations on the copyright law revised in December 1999 relating to digital information and online transmission for fair use. It suggest to draw up a plan at legal change and what is the library.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to compare web directories and users categories, and to identify factors for organizing knowledge structure. Date was collected by questionnaires and analyzed by factor analysis and multidimensional scaling. The result shows that Yahoo! directories and users categories are different. There are three factors, dynamic and static, visual and acoustic, relationship between hierarchic organization for differentiating knowledge structure.

Abstract

In the 21st Century of the Knowledge-based Economy Internet's Openness, Globality, and Ease to access is the central axis to construct the new melting down and the development of the technology, industry. and culture. However it takes place the disordered ability in the information society. That is, to intrude personal privacy, unlawful actions, to circulate an illegal information, to encroach and to destroy information system, even to, to be in confusion society, national strategy, administration, economy, and military action. As conclusion, first, in this article it looks into and analyzes the information security technology and paradigm to prevent and to stop up criminal actions in the cyberspace. Second, this author propose an active planning of the information security and technology.

Abstract

This paper attempts to answer to the question of whether the information professional holds assertive culture enough to accomodate knowledge management paradigm in its current identity and future role. Observations of the current culture made by inside and outside the discipline of library and information science are first reviewed. Results from interviews with practicing academic librarians follow. Suggestions for further studies are provided in the conclusion.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to introduce and propose the vision of information design for the user-friendliness and accessibility for web-based information services. Information design, which focuses more narrowly on the information itself in one or more information units, and may encompass the information aspects of elements of design(labels, knobs, and the physical interface), information content design, page design, Web site design, typography decisions, and so forth. Information design is an alternative to all traditional approaches to information (science, philosophy, and others). Information is designed according to consciously chosen principles and criteria. rather than by following habitual patterns of a traditional profession.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to give the consideration to possible future research trends and methodological trends of library and information science in Korea. In order to do that, it reviews 10 research papers that are associated with research trends and methodological trends in library and information science and have been published since 1990 in Korea. These 10 papers are divided by three groups for the analysis. The results show that relatively new and various research methods as well as traditional ones should be provided to library and information science. In addition. the research-based knowledge for the library and information science professionals and research method standards for them should be developed.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the user interface of digital information service in university libraries. Twenty-eight university libraries are analyzed by five characteristics; access point, operational characteristics, interface listing items. user help function, search types. The result of this study shows that both functions and interface design of digital information service in university libraries need to be Improved.
