A Study to Classify Serial Sex Offenders Based on Crime Scene Actions
초록보기
Abstract

This study aims to revarify the result of Canter(2003)'s research on serial sex offenders in the context of Korean society, and to explore for typological model of serial sex offenders in Korea. As a result of this research, the interactions between serial offenders and victims were classified into hostile, instrumental, and verbal. This result corresponds with the earlier one of Canter's study and shows that this typology can be considered as a useful base to categorize serial sex offenders. The result of this study can be used as an analytical base on two counts. To begin with, it will be useful as basic material to probe additional behavioral factor that fits to each type and, moreover, to analyze characteristics, criminal record, and behavior after flee of offender according to type. Although the result alone should not be presented as final analysis, it can be used as objective basis to minimize the possible errors of individual analyst.

초록보기
Abstract

This study interviewed sexually abused children with a structured sand-tray assessment developed from empirical pre-studies, and then reviewed its efficacy and applicability as an interview/assessment method for actual cases. Study sample was a group of sexually abused, school-aged 39 children with average intelligence whereas the comparison group was composed of school-aged 34 children who have experienced no sexual abuses. Interviews were conducted one-to-one, during 11 months. Initial interviews with each group were verified first by the inter-rater reliability test, and then statistically analyzed with t-test, one-way ANOVA and Scheffe post-hoc test. The consequences are follows; First, the instrumental charateristics of the interview/assessment method with structured sandtray technique for sexually abused children was meaningful according to the formal analysis of figures, spatial arrangement, overall composition and attitudes of the decoration. Second, the analysis of spontaneous statements of the sexually abused children confirmed the method's applicability to actual cases. Therefore, this study has a significance as a preliminary research to develop an improved assessment method which solves some problems in existing statement/assessment methods for sexually abused children and facilatates more effective statements from them.

The Effects of Suspect's Emotional Demeanor(active v. passive) and Record Medium (audio or video) on the Voluntariness Judgment: A Preliminary Study
초록보기
Abstract

The present research investigated the effects of suspet's demeanor and the type of record medium on the voluntariness judgments. It was suggested that the behavioral and emotional demeanors of the suspect confessing on the video could influence the voluntariness judgment. The suspect who appeared as relatively active in confessing tended to be judged as more voluntary than the same suspect who appeared as relatively passive on the video. In addition, it was also found that the subjects in the audio condition tended to judge the confession as more voluntary and be more confident in their judgments than did the subjects in the video condition. This result implied a possibility that audio-taped confession may also have a potential for bias in voluntariness judgment.
