Purpose: This study empirically examines the relations among corporate performance, technology, and corporate capabilities for service companies to find factors that could affect the competitiveness of the service industry. Most study on technology in the service industry have been conducted in developed countries, and yet there exist not sufficient empirical reviews. Research design, data and methodology: This paper, using rare empirical data, examines Korea's service industry and aims to make an academic and managerial contribution to the understanding of the relation between corporate competence and performance. This study analyzes 567 Korean Domestic Companies in Non-manufacturing and Service Industry, using the 2020 Detailed Survey of Venture Businesses (2500) data. Frequency analysis, correlation analysis, and regression analysis are performed. Results: Results show, Hypothesis 1 that internal competence has positive influence on technological strength, is supported. However, Hypothesis 2 that technological strength mediates between internal competence and business performance, Hypothesis 3 that external competence has positive influence on technological strength and Hypothesis 4 that technological strength mediates between external competence and business performance are all partially supported/rejected. Conclusions: This study suggests that technological strength is an important factor that affects both market share and sales. And mediating effect of technology strength emphasized in market share. However, in managing sales, more cautious approach and a more detailed analysis are needed..
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate impact of smart city awareness on citizen satisfaction and to measure various factors influencing smart city competitiveness that were rarely addressed in previous studies. For the impacts on the competitiveness of smart cities, this study explored the effects of data-driven service, economic impact, social trust through sharing, environmental protection, and sustainable growth. Research design, data and methodology: To collect data, this study employed an online survey conducted by a reputable research organization. Data analysis involved the use of factor analysis, ANOVA, and regression analysis. Results: This study identified key aspects important for enhancing citizen satisfaction. Furthermore, this research unveiled the significant impacts of data-driven service, economic impact, social trust through sharing, environmental protection, and sustainable growth on the competitiveness of smart cities. Conclusions: The results yield valuable managerial and policy implications. The study suggests that enhancing citizen satisfaction through improved awareness of the smart city is crucial for effective city marketing management. Additionally, the results highlight special aspects necessary to improve smart city competitiveness, including the implementation of promotional policies supported by the government, promoting global competitiveness for domestic companies, and fostering citizen participation for effective city marketing management.

Research design, data, and methodology: Utilizing a mixed-methods research design, the study delves into the multifaceted strategies employed by private sector entities, ranging from risk assessment and remote work policies to supply chain diversification and employee well-being initiatives. Result: The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the evolving landscape of business continuity planning during a pandemic, offering valuable insights for academia, industry practitioners, and policymakers. The research findings present a detailed account of how private companies have tailored their business continuity plans in response to the unique challenges posed by the pandemic. Conclusion: This academic exploration sheds light on the dynamic landscape of business continuity planning in private companies responding to the global pandemic. Insights into the effectiveness of remote work policies, supply chain diversification, employee safety measures, and financial strategies contribute to the understanding of best practices and areas requiring further attention. These recommendations aim to inform future business continuity planning efforts, enhance organizational resilience, and mitigate the impact of global health crises on private sector operations.
Purpose: A railroad project is a complex system with large construction costs in the initial stage and ongoing operating costs over its lifecycle. Current railroad projects tend to be based on construction options, which leads to huge deficiencies in operating costs. This phenomenon results from a lack of appropriate tools to accurately estimate a railroad project’s lifecycle costs. This study attempts to analyze the major components of railroad operating costs and to propose a decision-making system for analyzing the long-term lifecycle costs of railroad projects. Research design, data and methodology: We review the literature and analyze the current status of railroad operating costs in Korea and overseas. Based on previous projects, a framework for project options and operating costs is proposed. The framework is applied to actual railroad projects to demonstrate the validity of the model. Results: Case analysis shows that our framework is comprehensive in analyzing the primary aspects of railroad operating costs and plays an effective role in choosing various railroad project options. This study points out that the railway project operates inefficiently because estimating long-term costs without reflecting specific project options causes many errors. Conclusions: A major contribution of this study is the development of an improved framework for accurately estimating operating costs and providing policymakers and engineering firms with a holistic decision support system. Detailed components in estimating operating costs of the railroad business are discussed. And we present a decision-making tool that policymakers and private businesses can use in planning the railroad business.
