Purpose - This study aims to analyze 7-Eleven's specific competitive advantage strategy according to changes in the Japanese convenience store industry by selecting 7-Eleven, a leading company in the Japanese convenience store industry, as a representative case study. Research design, data, methodology – Due to the current COVID19 situation, fact-finding such as interviews with key managers through visiting surveys was not possible, so this case study was carried out based on the literature such as official and unofficial data collected from the companies through e-mail and articles that have been published outside. Results - As a result of the analysis, the researcher found that five competing strategy factors, such as dominant strategy, innovative logistics system strategy, information system development strategy, joint product development strategy, and direct communication strategy have closely maintained the mutual relation to form a combined strategy focusing on the franchise development strategy. Conclusions - The competitive advantage of 7-Eleven is thought to have secured its competitive advantage by combining the five competitive strategies complementarily for rapid response to change, cost advantage, and differentiated advantage. The management implications specified in this study can be considered a reference for establishing a competitive strategy for sustainable growth of the convenience store industry in the fierce competition and saturated market environment of Korean convenience stores.
This study is to examine how the financial resources as slack resources and subcontracting of SMEs affect their internationalization. In order to identify slack resources, subcontracting, and internationalization of SMEs, 1,062 SME samples with less than 300 employees in the electronics industry manufacturing sector and subcontracting data are used to analyze their relationship with export activities by logistic regression analysis. This study consists of five chapters. Chapter 1 explains the background and purpose of the study as an introduction, and Chapter 2 presents hypotheses along with existing literature research. Chapter 3 deals with the data and variables used in statistical analysis, and Chapter 4 discusses the analysis results and examines hypothesis validation. Finally, Chapter 5 describes the conclusions, significance, and limitations. Slack resources can be divided into available, recoverable, and potential resources, and the analysis shows that only available resources are negatively (-) related to the internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises. This can be interpreted as a high tendency for SMEs to avoid relatively risky choices such as entering overseas markets if they have a lot of cash resources. Subcontracting has also been shown to have a negative (-) relationship with internationalization. Domestic subcontracting means securing relatively safer domestic customers than overseas ones. Consequently, this result suggests that for SMEs particularly, high financial stability may be able to lead to decisions in less risky choices. This study was differentiated from existing studies on slack resources and internationalization, which was analyzed mainly for large companies and public listed companies. It extends the scope of the analysis to SMEs and, in particular, analyze the subcontracting situation of SMEs together. Thus, this study provides academic and practical implications that are useful for understanding SMEs' specific behaviors.
Purpose – According to the actual change of the logistics concept, the outsourcing activities of companies are actively progressing, and this is proceeding to third-party logistics and fourth-party logistics. This change in logistics situation raises the need for an in-depth understanding of four-party logistics. From that point of view, the purpose of writing this paper is. Research design, data, and methodology – In this study, first of all, the theoretical aspects of changes in the logistics concept are identified, third-party logistics among the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th logistics, and outsourcing activities. Finally, the concept of four-party logistics, the background of its introduction, and future prospects will be explored. Result – The meaning of material distribution is now passing through the existing three-party logistics and entering the era of four-way logistics. In addition, cost reduction and improvement of customer service through advanced logistics strategy can be said to be the company's competitiveness. Through this study, it can be seen that the conceptual change of logistics and the introduction of four-party logistics are closely related to the survival of the company's deficit in the market. Conclusion – In modern society, logistical competitiveness is the competitiveness of a company, and it can be seen that the logistical activities of a company can be achieved through the process of entering the four-party logistics from the existing third-party logistics based on outsourcing. This means that a more customer-oriented service can be provided from the standpoint of a company.
Purpose – The purpose of this study is to propose strategies of improving efficiency of 20 listed port companies in China based on analysis of their input-output indexes from 2014 to 2018. Research design, data, and methodology – In this paper, the relevant input-output indicators of 20 listed port companies in China from 2014 to 2018 were adopted. Comprehensive efficiency and pure technical efficiency were measured from output perspective by DEA and Malmquist index, and efficiency changes and regional efficiency were analyzed. Result – The results showed that the efficiency value of 20 listed port companies in China fluctuated and increased during 2014-2018, regional efficiency is unbalanced, and change of MPI is influenced by internal factors and external factors. Conclusion – The research conclusion can provide important reference information about management and planning for port companies in China and related areas. However, this paper is limited to the availability of data. So the improvement scheme for listed companies in inefficient regional ports needs further study, such as using AHP method.
Purpose – This study aims to understand the phenomenon called “regional multinational” in the geographical expansion of multinational enterprises and to find some evidence whether globalization of multinational enterprises tends to have a strong home region bias. Research design, data, and methodology – Through an in-depth case analysis, we analyze the series of strategic behaviors Wal-Mart made in South Korea from its entry in 1998 to its withdrawal in 2006. Then, we discuss the plausible causes of this exit, seeking to provide some evidence on the “regional multinational” phenomenon. Result – This study finds some evidence on the regional-based expansion of multinational enterprises. Our case study shows that Wal-Mart in South Korea focused on global standardization strategy and made an exit from the market as they were faced with increasing localization demands. From the perspective of multinational enterprises’ globalization strategy, Wal-Mart’s exit from the South Korean market can be considered as a strategic exit. Conclusion – The findings of this study suggest that while national responsiveness and localized adaptation are considered as a panacea for penetrating international markets, in reality most multinational enterprises attempt to add value primarily by capitalizing on similarities across markets and remain as regional multinationals.
Purpose – This study examines the regressive estate taxation issues and seeks measures for the rationalization of property taxation. Although various discussions on the reorganization of property taxation have been made, discourses on how much property taxation burden is given to homeowners and on whether the increase of property taxation should be shifted to tenants have not been properly carried out. Research design, data, and methodology – Therefore this study examined the property taxation issues and sought measures for the rationalization of property taxation based on homeowners’ social and economic characteristics. This study deals with discussions on the directions for rational real estate reorganization and what desirable real estate market stabilization polices are. Result – This study investigates what issues and disputes the powerful real estate policies to ease overheat of the real estate market have caused and seeks directions to solve those. Conclusion – The study results supports that the real estate taxation would be levied in proportion to the economic capacity of real estate owners to pay taxes. It implies that tax levy not only in conjunction with income, but also in combination with existing real estate assets would be considered to be desirable in terms of comprehensive tax justice.
