Abstract

Research records are essential records to explain the accountability of research throughout the life cycle of a research project. Thus, they need to be properly managed, preserved, and shared. This study analyzed the effectiveness and ability of applying DMP to research records management. This study also suggested the RRMP (Research Records Management Plan) for the research records management and preservation in scientific research institutes. RRMP is considered as up-front planning for the research records management and preservation before any records are created.

Abstract

Records in Contexts (RiC) is an international archival description standard developed by integrating and normalizing four archival description standards of the International Council of Archives (ICA). RiC has the advantage of diversifying archival description, exposing the context of records, and ensuring data interoperability between disparate systems. In this study, RiC is set up as a key tool in the design of archive systems, and logical data modeling is performed to implement the database. Because of RiC’s conceptual model, RiC-CM can be used as a data reference model, andwhich makes it possible to develop a data model that meets user requirements. Therefore, this study intends to implement these two data models: relational data model, which is widely used as the database on legacy systems, and graphical data model, which can flexibly extend objects around the relationship between information entities.

Abstract

Archive exhibitions are one of the important tasks of archives that promote the value of archives and contribute to increasing users’ interest and positive image but have not yet been activated. Recently, there has been a shift from a one-way archive exhibition to a new way to draw attention and understanding from users by using archival contents. This study aims to propose ways to activate archive exhibitions by utilizing archival contents by analyzing the exhibits of domestic cultural heritage institutions. Focusing on ways to improve the understanding and utilization of records through archival contents, the proposed strategy for developing archive exhibition programs is a three-way contents-based exhibition, experiential exhibition, and digital environment-based exhibition. The results of this study are expected to help develop archival exhibition programs that will enhance users’ interest and understanding of records.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the areas and elements of usability evaluation that reflect the characteristics of the archival contents collections in the National Archives of Korea, and to evaluate the usability of the “Decisions Relating to the Independence Movement” collection for history majors. Through the findings, the relation and importance level that usability evaluation areas and elements have on overall satisfaction can be identified. As a result of this study, the areas of content, search, and interface all had positive effects on overall satisfaction. The interface area holds the greatest influence, and the two elements on each area were found to have a positive effect. On the other hand, users selected the order of importance as “search” first, “contents” second, and “interface” third, showing that interface was considered relatively less important. Based on this, we propose improving the usability direction of the archival contents collection of the National Archives of Korea.

To achieve the goal of this study, prior studies of frame analysis were reviewed, and tweets of presidential archives and records before and after the impeachment were collected. This study conducted an analysis of Twitter and news extracted from Twitter using user frames and determined the differences between each frame over time. Afterward, five frames were set up to be used for the research through prior research and Twitter network analysis; changes in frames over time were examined by analyzing Twitter and news extracted from Twitter. Through such frame analysis, changes in the frame of presidential archives and records before and after the impeachment were examined, changes in public perception of presidential archives and records were identified, and areas of interest were determined. This study is significant as it identified changes in the public perception of presidential archives and records as well as in the areas of interest for the general public.

Abstract

The oral record related to the sexual slavery by Japan’s military is considered important evidence as it can grasp the damage situation and actual condition at that time. Therefore, systematic and integrated management of the organization’s oral records is necessary. For this purpose, this study proposed metadata elements for the management of oral records. The metadata proposed in this study consists of 16 upper elements and subelements, respectively. The suggested upper elements consist of 6 “essential elements” and 10 “optional elements.” The essential elements are “title,” “date,” “format,” “creator,” “content,” and “rights.”

Abstract

It has been more than ten years since the evaluation system of records management in public institutions was introduced. Over the past decade, the evaluation system of records management in public institutions has contributed to the professional deployment of records management and the expansion of the records infrastructure. However, at this time, it is necessary to introduce a new evaluation system because of various problems including ranking and insufficiency of feedback measure. Therefore, we attempted to identify the problems and suggest the direction of improvement by analyzing the status of the evaluation system for records management in public institutions and collecting opinions from various sectors. The directions of the new institutional evaluation on records management based on the analysis of the problems are a step-by-step introduction, the selection of customized evaluation indicators according to institutional characteristics, the introduction of the governance system, self-evaluation by selecting autonomous indicators of institutions, and the strengthening of the consulting function of the National Archives of Korea.

Abstract

JeungPyeong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do is one of the smallest local governments in Korea with the administrative division of 1-eup and 1-myun and the population of 37,000. Nevertheless, people in JeungPyeong have consistently created ‘the history of challenge and struggle’ as for instance, they stood together tightly for raising its status to JeungPyeong-gun. The JeungPyeong-gun Archives and Records Management Office likewise has made ‘small but great’ successes similar to what was achieved in JeungPyeung-gun through several experimental challenges done recently, resulting in obtaining a budget for local archiving projects and adding a new position of records manager. This report briefly introduces projects implemented by the office including community archiving, landscape archiving, the exhibition of records, and applying for public fund competitions, and explains the implications. It attempts to share successful experiences of the office and to suggest ideas that help more other archives and records management offices create challenging experiments.
