Abstract

The seventh year of implementing online material deposit demands a systematic collection, legal and regulatory improvements, and the establishment of a long-term strategic plan for online material collection. In this study, we aimed to propose an online material collection strategy and a long-term roadmap for preserving online resources as national intellectual and cultural heritage for future generations. To achieve this, we analyzed the status of domestic and foreign libraries, related laws and regulations, and the types and collection status of online materials. Based on this analysis, we proposed practical collection standards and methods. Ultimately, a long-term roadmap and implementation plan were suggested. The long-term development plan for online material collection established a phased, concrete implementation strategy. This includes the foundation-building phase of online material collection, followed by the expansion phase, and finally reaching the maturity phase.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the everyday information-seeking behaviors of Alpha-generation elementary school students. A survey was conducted among 4th to 6th grade students to investigate their information needs in daily life, the sources they use to fulfill these needs and the reasons for their choices, the barriers they encounter during the information search process, and their satisfaction and trust in the information obtained. The results indicate that Alpha generation elementary students most frequently use video platforms and have the highest information needs related to hobbies and leisure activities. The main reasons for choosing information sources were familiarity and convenience. Differences based on demographic characteristics and media literacy education were also analyzed. There were significant differences in information-seeking behavior based on gender. Also, students who had received media literacy education experienced fewer difficulties in the information acquisition process compared to those who had not. The findings of this study are expected to provide valuable data for developing information services and media literacy education directions for the Alpha generation in school settings.

Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze students’ school library use factors and purposes and to suggest ways to stimulate school library use. For this purpose, essays freely written by university students in the Department of Library and Information Science about the school library were analyzed and divided into personal factors, school library factors, use factors, and non-use factors. Comments on school library facilities, collections, school librarians, and programs were presented to promote school library use. In addition, it was suggested that the school library serve as a rest area, reflect student preference for comic books and genre novels, and strengthen club activities.

Abstract

As the number of Instagram users continues to grow, an increasing number of public libraries are establishing and maintaining accounts on the Instagram platform. The objective of this study is to classify and analyze the content of Instagram posts from 14 public libraries that are actively engaged on the platform. A classification of post types, divided into seven large, 16 medium, and 76 small categories, was employed to analyze the content of posts on each library’s Instagram account from the account’s inception to the end of December 2023. The analysis revealed that library posts focused on a few items, including book recommendations, library introductions and news, and event announcements of literary and arts programs. Program event announcements and reviews, book recommendations and reading programs were found to be highly correlated with user engagement and teen reading programs. Based on these findings, it is recommended that future Instagram posts should be more user-centered and interactive, and that libraries should actively promote their events on Instagram and other social media platforms.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the research trends of research data academic papers from 2010 to 2024 to understand the research status of research data over the past 15 years. To achieve this goal, keyword frequency analysis and network centrality analysis were conducted on 14,921 academic articles published in Scopus DB. The keyword network analysis using UCINET, which was divided into the first period (2010-2014), second period (2015-2019), and third period (2020-2024) according to the period of publication of academic journals, revealed the main keywords studied regardless of the period, the keywords that attracted attention by period, and the keywords that decreased in attention over time. It was found that the most active topic of research data-related research in the last 15 years is data sharing, and most of the keywords with high Degree Centrality also have high Betweenness Centrality. The results of this study can be utilized as a basis for suggesting future research directions in the field of research data in Korea.

Abstract

This study investigated the impact of the technical characteristics of Generative AI (GAI) and librarians’ personal traits on their intention to use GAI. Personalization, interaction, and context awareness were considered as technical characteristics of GAI that influence the intention to use GAI, while innovativeness and frequency of GAI use were considered as librarians’ personal traits. The study targeted 187 librarians working in libraries, and 165 questionnaires were collected and analyzed. The results showed that the technical characteristics of GAI had a statistically significant impact on the intention to use GAI. Additionally, librarians’ personal traits, namely innovativeness and frequency of GAI use, were also found to have a significant impact on the intention to use GAI. The findings of this study can be used as valuable information to help librarians increase their intention to use GAI and improve the quality and satisfaction of library services.

Abstract

Librarians facing the new information environment need to actively cope with knowledge and skills, but librarians in outsourced public libraries are burdened with participation in external education due to concerns about work gaps or inadequate institutional support, making it difficult to continue their education. Therefore, in this study, in order to create an environment in which librarians can grow together, the current status of the activities of the learning community was checked and the effects were identified. An online survey was conducted from May 20 to 22, 2023, targeting librarians who had participated in learning community activities among librarians belonging to the Gangnam-gu Library, and 101 copies were distributed to collect 81 copies and use them as analysis data. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that librarians are satisfied with the activities of the learning community and have a high level of understanding and empathy for their necessity. Therefore, as a way to revitalize the learning community, we propose to form a culture that promotes collaboration among members, share visions and values for learning community activities, and provide institutional support.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a research methodology course for graduate-level students using an information-seeking behaviour model of distance learners. Based on a case study and structured survey, the factors that motivate and hinder information-seeking behaviours were identified. The motivating factor for students seeking information through the research methodology course was the necessity to obtain a master’s degree, while the hindering factor was the challenge of balancing work and study. The course was developed by leveraging motivational factors and addressing hindering factors. The results of this study can serve as foundational data for understanding students’ information-seeking behaviour and establishing teaching and learning strategies to enhance students’ information-seeking skills when developing online courses.
