The knowledge-based society needs creative and active knowledge workers. To meet the need of this modern society, Korea education begins to focus on reading ability of students and project-based school education. The 7th School Education Program requires performance evaluation, optional activites, and extracurricular activites and the school library is a necessary facility for these educational activities. Ministry of Education of Korea made a master plan to rebuild the school library for The 7th School Education Program. The master plan includes the assistance for the school library facility, school library materials, budget, the library staff. And also the master plan includes promotion for school education in the library to develop the school library as the center of school education.
Currently, Reading instruction has a problem that it's separating subject matter and emphasizing only an activities after reading. This study designed a web-based reading instruction system in which teachers, students and teacher librarians can actively participate to help students to develop the integrated reading ability. Existing reading system have been analyzed to find requirement of web-based reading instruction system. Supposed reading instruction system composed of 6 menus, reading guidance ,reading level diagnosis, book selection, reading strategy, reading presentation, reading discussion.
In the society of lifelong learning, a school library has to play an important educational role in improving self-directed learning ability that school education is seeking. First of all, This study makes it clear that the goal of school library use education is to develop self-directed learning ability. It carries out a research into the present condition of school library use education which is an important educational role of a school library. Finally this study proposes some improvement plans in school library use education, as mentioned below : 1. Building an administration system of school library media center. 2. Re-establishing information literacy as culture education 3. Team teaching by a curriculum based approach
The purpose of this study is to present method on activation of bibliotherapy for children and young people in school library. So the first part of paper is to understand mental state of children and youth. Then second part is to develop library collection for bibliotherapy in school library. The last Part is to develop bibliotherapy Program for children and youth by school librarian.
Gannam-gu established 'school digital libraries' in 15 of their elementary schools between September 2001 to October 2002, and now offers library services to both students and residents All expenses and human resources for these libraries are provided by the Gannam-gu and schools provide only their vacant classrooms. This is a good example of combined school-public library The type of combined school-public library can be a useful suggestion for our educational situation. So the purpose of this study is to reveal the actual condition and the efficiency of the library established by Gannam-gu, a well-known case of a combined school-public library.
This study investigated American school library media program standards. It then examined School Library Program Standards and Guidelines for Texas, thus demonstrating the adaptation of national standards for the state level. Also, to show its implementation at the building level, the study analysed the correlation between library instruction programs and national standards. After this investigation, several suggestions were made to develop Korean school library media program standards.
This study analyzed the functions, organizational structure and activities of NCLIS, LIC and Resource in USA and UK. In result, NCLIS as an independent agency within executive branch performs the powerful advisory function to U.S. Congress and government agencies and supports to improve the library and information services with IMLS conducting the government policies. LIC and Resource in UK renders advisory function to improve library and information services with government fund although they are only committee under the Department for Culture , Media and Sports.
The purpose of this paper is to suggest guidelines for building up an integrated information network(IIN) model that enables to enhance production, flow and use of knowledge and information. The IIN consists of four areas of key infrastructure, such as, education, labor market, school-industry cooperation, and lifelong education information infrastructure. Based on the analysis of current situations and problems of each information infrastructure, this paper raises variety of issues and solutions for the IIN model. Directions for building up the IIN includes both information base infrastructure and information support infrastructure.
The development of new technology and the change of educational environment are much influencing the primary and middle school education. The school library which is very important part of school education in order to perform its functions effectively and efficiently must be provided with professional staff, necessary resources and adequate facilities. It is necessary to redesign and renovate existing facilities to meet the growing needs of newly developed school library programs and to effectively manage and allocate physical space appropriately. The objective of this research is to study the theoretical background of the subject and to find out present conditions and future needs of school library facilities and environmental change in Korea through a predesigned questionnaire for a redesign proposal.
Electronic reference service was defined as reference service designed for remote users and identified by a specific link from a library' website. This study examined whether academic libraries deliver web-based electronic reference services to remote users. Particularly, four types of electronic bulletin board services, free bulletin board, FAQ, Q＆A and reference question-response service were measured in terms of 8 types of questions and 12 contents of questions. The result showed that there was few differences among 4 services. Guidelines for effective use of electronic bulletin board services in academic libraries were suggested: standardization of service names, easy access to menu services, definition of each menu, search function for contents and standard web forms.
As information technology advances and changes in the library environment, a flexible view and reinventing perspective of LIS research is necessary. This study focused on the investigation of the recent(2000-2003) research trends by analyzing the contents of articles from the major academic research journals for getting a future oriented view of the field. A taxonomy developed by Hawkins(2003) was applied in order to find out the major pattern of research in the domestic as well as international LIS Journals, and Chi-Square Tests Analysis was used to figure out if the research pattern has any effect on research environment(vice versa).
